The Roman Catholic parish church Lienz to St. Andrä, is located north of the city center on the Pfarrbichl at 692 meters above sea level. It is in the architectural core of a Gothic building and was rebuilt several times during various periods. It is the oldest parish church in Lienz and one of the oldest parishes in East Tyrol.
History
Already in the 5th century stood on the Pfarrbichl, north of Lienz, an early Christian church. In 1204, the Bishop of Pola consecrated a Romanesque church. It was single-nave, decorated with frescoes and probably with a flat ceiling. From this church come the two portal lions, who are still standing at the main gate today.
In 1430, the Görzer Bauhütte (builder's hut) began, on behalf of the resident in Lienz Gorizia noble family, with the generous conversion to a three-aisled Gothic basilica. It was also decorated with frescoes and received under the choir a crypt. The Innsbruck sculptor C. Geiger created from dark red marble the grave slabs for the last Görzer count Leonhard († April 12, 1500) and Michael von Wolkenstein Rodenegg and his wife Barbara von Thun.
1737 destroyed a lightning tower and church roof. The sanctuary was now Baroque. The main altar is the most magnificent Baroque altar in East Tyrol. The tower was given its present Gothic Revival appearance after the redesign of the upper part in 1907/09. At the end of 1949, after its "confiscation" in the Second World War, again a new bells, consisting of seven bells, could be bought and consecrated.
In the 19th century, the church furnishings (benches, pulpit, baptismal font, windows) were regothisized and received their present appearance during the last renovation from 1967 to 1969. In the north of the church was built in 1924/25 by architect Clemens Holzmeister the district war memorial with the war memorial chapel. Inside is a painting cycle by Albin Egger-Lienz. The artist is buried there.
After centuries of belonging to the Archdiocese of Salzburg, the parish was 1808 Brixen subordinated, for a few years Ljubljana, then Brixen again. After the First World War, the Apostolic Administration Innsbruck-Feldkirch was established, which was converted in 1964 into the Diocese of Innsbruck.
The organ on the west gallery was originally built in 1618 by the organ builder Andreas Butz from Passau. After a reconstruction by Franz II Reinisch in 1888, the preserved Butz housing since 1972 houses an organ work of the company Reinisch-Pirchner, in which some of the pipes have been integrated by Butz.
The Patrozinium is celebrated on the 30th of November.
Bells
There were already bells before the First World War, but they were taken down for military purposes. Foundry and casting date are unknown. Nine years after the end of the war (1927), seven bells were purchased by the bell foundry Grassmayr. These had to give way to war purposes again in 1942. It was not until 1949 that today's bells, again made up of seven bells and made by bell foundry Grassmayr, were acquired and consecrated. The interesting thing is that there are two documents certifying the blessing of the bells. One dates from June 24, 1949, the second from February 4, 1950. The reason for a second document was the impure bell disposition of the 1949 casting, so that in the following year bells three and six had to be recast. Bell 7 seems to be older. Probably it is the leftover bell from the year 1927.
Although the bells are repeatedly indicated on a lowed h0, bell experts agree by agreement. It sounds in a raised b0.
The belfry is two-storey and three-fold constructed. The system is electrified and all bells are equipped with clapper catchers.
Die römisch-katholische Stadtpfarrkirche Lienz zu St. Andrä, befindet sich nördlich des Stadtzentrums auf dem Pfarrbichl auf 692 Meter Seehöhe. Es handelt sich im architektonischen Kern um einen gotischen Bau und wurde während verschiedenster Epochen mehrmals umgebaut. Sie ist die älteste Pfarrkirche in Lienz und eine der ältesten Pfarren Osttirols.
Geschichte
Schon im 5. Jahrhundert stand auf dem Pfarrbichl, nördlich von Lienz, eine frühchristliche Kirche. 1204 weihte der Bischof von Pola eine romanische Kirche ein. Sie war einschiffig, mit Fresken geschmückt und wahrscheinlich mit einer Flachdecke versehen. Von diesem Gotteshaus stammen die zwei Portallöwen, die heute noch beim Haupttor stehen.
1430 begann die Görzer Bauhütte, im Auftrag des in Lienz residierenden Görzer Grafengeschlechts, mit dem großzügigen Umbau zu einer dreischiffigen gotischen Basilika. Auch sie wurde mit Fresken geschmückt und erhielt unter dem Chor eine Krypta. Der Innsbrucker Bildhauer C. Geiger schuf aus dunkelrotem Marmor die Grabplatten für den letzten Görzer Grafen Leonhard († 12. April 1500) und für Michael von Wolkenstein-Rodenegg und dessen Gemahlin Barbara von Thun.
1737 zerstörte ein Blitz Turm und Kirchendach. Der Altarraum wurde nun barockisiert. Der Hauptaltar ist der prunkvollste Barockaltar Osttirols. Seine heutige neugotische Form erhielt der Turm nach der Umgestaltung des oberen Teils im Zeitraum 1907/09. Ende 1949 konnte, nach dessen „Einziehung“ im Zweiten Weltkrieg, wieder ein neues Geläut, bestehend aus sieben Glocken, angeschafft und geweiht werden.
Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde die Kircheneinrichtung (Bänke, Kanzel, Taufstein, Fenster) regotisiert und erhielt bei der letzten Renovierung von 1967 bis 1969 ihr heutiges Aussehen. Im Norden der Kirche wurde 1924/25 durch Architekt Clemens Holzmeister das Bezirkskriegerdenkmal mit der Kriegergedächtniskapelle errichtet. Darin befindet sich ein Gemäldezyklus von Albin Egger-Lienz. Der Künstler ist dort bestattet.
Nach jahrhundertelanger Zugehörigkeit zum Erzbistum Salzburg wurde die Pfarre 1808 Brixen unterstellt, für wenige Jahre Laibach, daraufhin wieder Brixen. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg wurde die Apostolische Administratur Innsbruck-Feldkirch eingerichtet, die 1964 in die Diözese Innsbruck umgewandelt wurde.
Die Orgel auf der Westempore wurde ursprünglich 1618 von dem Passauer Orgelbauer Andreas Butz erbaut. Nach einem Umbau durch Franz II. Reinisch 1888 beherbergt das erhaltene Butz-Gehäuse seit 1972 ein Orgelwerk der Firma Reinisch-Pirchner, in das einige erhaltene Pfeifen von Butz integriert wurden.
Das Patrozinium wird am 30. November gefeiert.
Glocken
Es gab bereits Glocken vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg, die jedoch zu Kriegszwecken abgenommen wurden. Gießer und Gussdatum sind nicht bekannt. Neun Jahre nach Ende des Krieges (1927) konnten sieben Glocken, durch die Glockengießerei Grassmayr, angeschafft werden. Diese mussten 1942 erneut Kriegszwecken weichen. Erst 1949 konnte das heutige Geläut, wiederum aus sieben Glocken bestehend und von Glockengießerei Grassmayr angefertigt, angeschafft und geweiht werden. Interessant hierbei ist, dass es zwei Glockenweihurkunden gibt. Eine stammt vom 24. Juni 1949, die zweite vom 4. Februar 1950. Grund für eine zweite Urkunde bestand in der unreinen Glockendisposition vom Guss 1949, sodass im Jahre darauf die Glocken drei und sechs umgegossen werden mussten. Glocke 7 scheint älteren Datums zu sein. Vermutlich ist sie die übrig gebliebene Glocke aus dem Geläut vom Jahr 1927.
Obwohl das Geläut immer wieder auf einem vertieften h0 angegeben wird, sind sich Glockenexperten durch Absprache einig. Es erklingt in einem erhöhten b0.
Der Glockenstuhl ist zweigeschossig und dreifächrig aufgebaut. Die Anlage ist elektrifiziert und alle Glocken sind mit Klöppelfängern ausgestattet.

casting the second side was almost a disaster but working quickly I managed to tie it up ans stop the leak.
This is the tricky part--figuring out how much metal you'll need. It's a guessing game, really. Whatever doesn't go into the cuttlebone can be re-heated and poured into an ingot or into water for casting shot or water cast pieces.
My metal is usually a 50/50 mixture of scrap sheet ("new" metal) and cast metal.

I have all these casting shots of people looking straight down the barrel. Holding numbers in front of them, hoping that they get selected for whatever assignment it is you are working on. This time I tried some off camera looks. Usually you know right away if they are right or not for the part. Casting is brutal, both for me and for them, after about 40 faces, everyone starts to look the same to me.

It's gotta' be a man thing. This embodies entertainment, skill, hard work and perseverance. Late in the evening, this man was wading about in the Santa Rosa Sound casting for bait while his two young sons waited onshore. His boys were really excited about the prospect going fishing. Personally, it's been a long time since I had the desire to go fishing but should that idea creep into my head....first...I'd make a quick stop at a bait and tackle shop. But then, if I really wanted fish, I'd just head on over to my favorite restaurant!
