From one of our first nudes series, in 1971 when M was 19-20, this one in daylight using window light allowing the finer grain Ilford FP4 film.

This photo was taken after I had climbed up onto a desk to try a different viewpoint. I originally caught it as a semi-abstract composition of limbs, without her face visible but I wasn't sure how to arrange it so I included all of her – I'm pleased I did as looking at the scan again recently I realised it made an interesting portrait. Unfortunately the original print was lost and I can't remember how I composed it. There was also a nearly full frame portrait version printed but her foot was cropped off.

As often happens, her spontaneous position as she sat up after a shot of her lying on the carpet, made a nicer composition than any I could have thought out – Iasked her to stop mid-movement to take the photo. Her look up at me "OK go for it if you think it works..." I think expresses the enthusiastic collaboration involved in these sessions. I took another more relaxed portrait after this as we were deciding how to set up the next picture.

PS May 2023: this is a a new, higher resolution version with some correction of wide-angle distortion, posted on Patreon last year, now updating the old version here. I have also found the battered original print so I am making a new version with that crop (also rotated)... now posted.

Here's another one from a rare ascent of Mount Bell in Banff National Park. Some of you may know about the popular day hike destination, Taylor Lake; if so Mount Bell is the mountain to the very south of Taylor Lake. It's not an exceptionally high peak, but it makes for a long, tiring day because the approach is quite far, making it feel quite remote too. Not many parties ascend Mt. Bell, and I think it's because the tourists flock towards Mt. Temple and others towards the Lake Louise area.

Mount Bell provides some excellent views towards the North of Mount Temple, and I believe it is Bident, Quadra, and Babel to the left of the frame.

This is my sister checking out the view!

"Beauty is the gift of God" ~ Aristotle

This section of the Snake River is just north of Schwabachers Landing in Grand Teton NP. The peace one feels when standing in a place like this is hard to put into words but I'm pretty darn sure Aristotle was onto something. :)

While I was standing here just enjoying the view, three Grebes paddled upstream disturbing the perfect reflection and prompting me to quickly capture the image. :)

Please take a moment and click on the image to see it on a black background. :)

mmerse yourself in the captivating allure of New Orleans after dark with this stunning aerial photograph. The city's iconic skyline is bathed in a warm glow, with towering skyscrapers and historic buildings adorned with twinkling lights. The bustling streets below, illuminated by the soft glow of streetlamps, create a mesmerizing contrast with the towering structures above.

This image captures the vibrant energy and unique charm of the Crescent City, inviting viewers to experience the magic of New Orleans at night.

( Trying something different. I took this with my S23 Ultra and used gigapixels AI to double the size then edit. Any thoughts? )

While exploring Death Valley, I was captivated by the contrast between these lone shrubs and the vast dunes. The evening golden light perfectly revealed the sand ripples. I wanted to capture this moment where life persists in extreme conditions, with majestic mountains as a backdrop.

I seem to be quite captivated by this fellow -The Scarecrow

- Walter de la Mare

All winter through I bow my head

beneath the driving rain;

the North Wind powders me with snow

and blows me black again;

at midnight 'neath a maze of stars

I flame with glittering rime,

and stand above the stubble, stiff

as mail at morning-prime.

But when that child called Spring, and all

his host of children come,

scattering their buds and dew upon

these acres of my home,

some rapture in my rags awakes;

I lift void eyes and scan

the sky for crows, those ravening foes,

of my strange master, Man.

I watch him striding lank behind

his clashing team, and know

soon will the wheat swish body high

where once lay a sterile snow;

soon I shall gaze across a sea

of sun-begotten grain,

which my unflinching watch hath sealed

for harvest once again.

Thanks, Wuf! that was hilarious.. x
