Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly/Serenity.

Waited well over a year and a half since preorder for this fella to come out. The company had some issues, including one where they had to have the headsculpt redone by a different company because the first just didn't not meet expectations. They included both in the packaging. This one, the second one, is by far superior and was worth the wait.

The costume is quite lovely, too.

Definitely a few issues, but for their first release, I'm very pleased with this guy and so glad I didn't cancel.

James Cook was born in 1728 in the village of Marton in Yorkshire.

He joined the British merchant navy when he was a teenager, later joining Royal Navy in 1755. He saw action in the Seven Years' War and surveyed and mapped most of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec. This brought him to the attention of the Admiralty and Royal Society, which led to his commission in 1766 as commander of HM Bark Endeavour for the first of three Pacific voyages.

During these voyages he sailed thousands of miles across mainly uncharted areas of the globe. He was responsible for the mapping of lands from New Zealand to Hawaii, on a scale never previously achieved.

As his voyages continued, he surveyed and named features, recorded islands and coastlines on European maps for the first time. He was skilled in seamanship, surveying and cartography, he displayed physical courage, and had an ability to lead men in adverse conditions.

Cook was attacked and killed in 1779 during his third exploratory voyage in the Pacific. It occurred whilst he was attempting to kidnap the Hawaiian chief Kalaniʻōpuʻu, in order to reclaim a cutter which had been stolen from one of his ships.

He left behind a legacy of geographical and scientific knowledge which was to influence his successors over the following centuries. Numerous memorials worldwide have been dedicated to him, including this monument on the cliff top in Whitby, where he started his career at sea.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

I noticed this lady confidently navigating the canal under the bridge and took a little sequence (see the adjacent shots). Wish I had a longer lens, 50mm is definitely not 'paparazzo' material. The 2 closer shots are severe post-process 'zooms' (crops) and the deteriorating quality shows...

".... a gentleman in a wide suit of blue, with a hook instead of a hand attached to his right wrist; very bushy black eyebrows; and a thick stick in his left hand, covered all over (like his nose) with knobs. He wore a loose black silk handkerchief round his neck, and such a very large coarse shirt collar, that it looked like a small sail. [....] He was usually addressed as Captain, this visitor; and had been a pilot, or a skipper, or a privateersman, or all three perhaps; and was a very salt-looking man indeed."

Once, this man served a nobleman who was known throughout feudal Japan. As a guard, he was one of the most trusted servants and so he he often accompanied his lord and the noble family. One day, he was ordered to guard the lord's wife and oldest son on business voyage to Hokkaido, on an armed ship. As soon as they entered open water, he killed the captain, send the wife and son in a little boat back to the main land and ruled over his new crew with a iron fist. Now, Captain Kaizokuro is the one of the greatest conquerors the Eastern seas have ever seen. He has won every battle with mainland forces, defeated countless pirate fleets, settled dozens of oversea colonies and gathered mountains of treasures!

So, just a figure I made one afternoon with a piece of scenery for display, hope you like it :)

Here it is Captain Harlock finished. It took work... 😅 He is a fictional character that has always fascinated me. Maybe my next project could be The Arcadia ...

I've just heard that Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart died yesterday, at the age of 69. We all knew he'd been in a bad way for several years (turns out it was MS), but to hear he has finally gone is just... I mean, J*sus, what's the point in even trying to say anything? I haven't felt upset - period - by the death of any public figure - not since Burroughs died... And now...it's like, all the wrong people are dying, you know? And when I see all the sh*t on TV, in music, films, etc., I feel a burning desire to go out and give the whole culture a good kick up the *ss, ya dig? Anyway, that's about it - sorry for posting something so simple (and apologies for not being my usual amusing self), but I'm feeling so exhausted, after all that withdrawal sh*t... RIP Captain.

My son's current shoe, the Captain America shoe. Very cool they are too. Made by Stride Rite. I waited until they were a bit worn in before finally getting around to drawing it. This is in the Stillman and Birn Alpha book. I still have to draw this and the previous shoe in his small Moleskine collection of shoes in black and white.

From the new Captain America movie coming out.
