FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. – Sergeant David Garrard and Sgt. Robert Putnam, both combat engineers with Company C, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, make a few adjustments during their fire for effects mission at the call for fire lane of the 2012 Best Sapper Competition held at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., April 20, 2012. Of 38 teams, this 3rd BCT team placed 24th among sappers from across the globe in the two-day, annual event. The team tested their physical strength, stamina and mental toughness in a series of tasks including land navigation, rappelling, weapons mastery, thermal breeching and more than 50 miles of foot marches with full rucks. Throughout the competition that spanned more than 50 hours of continuous events, each sapper pushed himself to excessive levels of physical and mental fatigue.(U.S. Army photo by Sgt. wasn't going to put up this shot of the fullmoon last night but seen flickr's funpics... photo which was grand.... for my mother's people this moon was often known as the calling moon because of the restlessness stirring in this time of year young were in the womb restless to be born... spirits in water and plants were restless to grow and begin again.... young men listened to the march wind for messages that brought new life...told of ways of life... and told of life passing.... this was the season of calling all beings to ready and prepare to begin again... just some thoughts...cbc

Vandaag sta ik met de Britse vlag in de serie 'London Calling' van het AD. Ik volg hiermee o.a. Sebastiaan Verschuren, Remona Fransen en Bas Verwijlen op die ook met de Britse vlag geportretteerd zijn.

Day 32: Today I woke up quite ill with a stabbing pain in my temple. Maria had same. And then magically a few hours (and three ibuprofen, a tylenol, and two sudafed) later, we looked at each other and said, "I feel ... better!" And we did a little dance. The euphoria one experiences when a severe headache finally eases...well, it's terrific. So terrific that I had the bright idea to first wash all three dogs and then steam clean everything in the house resembling fabric or carpet. Brian (who became ill at the exact moment Maria and I became well) fetched the Rug Doctor, and I had my way with the children's carpets. They look magnificent. Or at least clean. Then we took turns working on the living room couch and chair. The emptying of the waste water was humbling, believe me.

Though I do enjoy the comfort of the indoors and modern civilization I can't help but feel that constant pull towards being in nature. I truly feel that there is a spiritual connection with nature that God uses to call us out of our busy lives. These little moments of euphoria in pure, natural, creation are in my opinion the whispers of our Creator calling us home.

Felt like doing something freaky for Friday.
This is the hallowed-out shell of a hilltop mental hospital. It hasn't been a functioning institution in my lifetime. Demolition even took out half the structure a decade or more ago, but many of the walls still stand. I saw these awesome oaks and slid down the hill to get them in the frame.
