I had a conference call this afternoon, one where I didn't have an active role but needed to listen in. Since it was at the end of the work day, I put on my headset and walked back to the pond to see who was around. Pretty quiet, but the sun was shining, the temperature was 68F, and there was a slight breeze. It was the best conference call I've ever been on.

Pigeon racing is a popular pastime in the villages of Central Java, Indonesia. Each competitor has couples of male and female birds. The males are taken and released 3 miles away from the "arena", a small clearing in a rice field, where the competitors wait holding the female pigeons.
First male pigeon to reach the arena and land on top of his female partner wins each round.

Shot right out the hotel window just before leaving for breakfast. Kinda reminded me of "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" so I tweaked it a little to that end. :)

Instead of a blog where librarians show silly books in their collections (awfullibrarybooks.wordpress.com), maybe I should start one where I show the crap that people donate thinking that a library wants (because really, a library is just a giant Goodwill store for really poor people right?) and we recycle right away (by-passing the collection and even the book sale).
A perfect example of said crap. This little booklet put out by General Electric explaining just what exactly a VCR (video cassette recorder) is and how you can use it. Doesn't explain how to keep the damn clock from blinking 12:00 though.
