I'll have to work on a better photo of this one, but the story is good. I found this lamp when my partner and I went to San Francisco for a weekend. He continued on to a longer vacation from there but I had to go back to LA and work. I so wanted this lamp — it was perfect for my living room and completely fit my style. Sadly, it's all one piece and cannot come apart for shipping. I even tried calling on favors from a few of my San Francisco friends, but none could help me get the lamp and make my flight... So I left the lamp behind and went home.
You think that would be the end of it, but I really wanted that lamp. I worked all week trying to figure how I could get my hands on it and on Fri night, after working a full week, a friend asked what I was going to do over the weekend. I replied, "Driving to San Francisco to buy a lamp." She said she'd join me so we left early on Saturday.
Now mind you, I had no idea if the lamp was even still there. The store could have sold it by then and I'd have been out of luck, but I hit the road anyway and we made it to SF by lunchtime. Not only was the lamp still there, but the store's staff remembered me from the week before. I told them my tale of driving to San Francisco and back in one day and they were shocked—so shocked, that they gave me a discount on the purchase!
My friend and I celebrated by having lunch with the lamp at a local restaurant and then drove it up to Coit Tower for a few more photo opportunities. With the sun setting over the city, we got in the car and drove back to LA. We were only in San Francisco for a few hours, but the lamp is now mine forever and ever! By the way, that friend and I still celebrate the trip as that date is now formally recognized as Lamp Day.
Happy Lamp Day!

Getting started. The iMac is on its back because in an odd turn of events (what else is new, it's an Apple product) you have to remove the screen (which is why I needed the suction cups) to get at the innards. The MacBook is open to the step by step instructions and I've got my specialty tool box handy. Out of sight stage right is the bottle of whiskey needed to get up the courage to take the next step.
This was during my exciting, spontaneous, snowy Reno outing with my cousin and her coworker Eugene... We were actually headed back home at this time...
Our trip in summary:
We left early Sunday morning (February 19) and arrived to our hotel at Best Western Plus Boomtown Casino Hotel. We reserved for only one night. We enjoyed their lobster buffet there...yum! After eating, we drove and explored around Reno, around the Wingfield Park. We then called it a day afterwards... After a restless evening (since I didn't have a bed), we headed home the very next morning, but things got interesting: We got stranded in the snow around Truckee since my cousin forgot her keys in the trunk! She forgot it when we were putting our car's snow chains. After 2 hours (while at the same time calling for help), we finally managed to open the backseat to get into the trunk. We then continued down I-80 slowly thru the whiteout conditions and finally got down the mountains safely, though the rain continued to fall even as we got back home. What an interesting trip we had!
(Snow Outing taken place February 19-20, 2017. Footage filmed Monday, February 20, 2017.)
Weather scenario/forecast:
A powerful Pacific storm had moved into Northern California overnight Sunday and was expected to remain in the region thru Tuesday. The storm was forecast to bring plentiful rain, mountain snow and strong winds to the state. This winter has been quite active for atmospheric rivers in the West. Indeed, this season has knocked out the 5-year drought gripping the state. Also, much of the Sierra Nevada saw its rainiest & snowiest October-February period on record! "Heavy snow was to create dangerous conditions, with travel being severely impacted over the Sierra passes, including I-80," according to NWS. The snow amounts in California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range this winter are difficult to wrap your head around. In many cases topping 500 inches, they are some of the highest totals in memory.

Here's some more shots of that ice cream bus I featured a while back. It has move on since, most likely to storage.

This bullfrog was pretty loud! He seemed to be having a conversation with another frog, 100 feet away.
It's hard to get perspective in this photo. Without his legs extended, he was probably ten inches long.

"In a park in Tottenham sits a magnificent ancient Oak tree – a 500-year-old symbol of permanence that dominates a corner in this forever-changing pocket of the city. Bird-like calls, songs and messages echo out from the canopy of the tree as performers continually appear and disappear, fluctuating between restful perching to passionate vocal and physical activity. The performers beckon knowing audiences and unwitting passers-by alike, enticing them to stop, look up, contemplate and enjoy. Bring your blanket or rug, lie on the grass, and expect to see – and hear – the iconic tree in a completely new way." LIFT
