Köln Hauptbahnhof (English: Cologne Central Station, abbr.: Köln Hbf) is the central railway station in Cologne, Germany.

The station is an important local, national and international hub, with many ICE, Thalys and InterCity trains calling there, as well as regional RegionalExpress, RegionalBahn and local S-Bahn trains. EuroNight and DB NachtZug night services also call at the station. It has frequent connections to Frankfurt by way of the Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line, which starts in southern Cologne. On an average day, about 250,000 travellers frequent the station, leaving it tied with Hanover and Düsseldorf for fifth busiest station in Germany.

The station is situated next to the Cologne cathedral.

There is another important train station in Cologne, the Köln Messe/Deutz railway station across the river Rhine, just about 400 metres away from Köln Hauptbahnhof. The stations are linked by the Hohenzollernbrücke, a six-track railway bridge with passenger walkways on each side. Frequent local services connect the two stations as well.

The station has to cope with a very high daily load; even though some ICE services now call at the Köln-Deutz station, though its platforms are divided into three sections each, are still remarkably crowded all over the day, and a major extension of the station is impossible because of its unique surroundings. Connections to the local Cologne network Stadtbahn are made by two subterranean stations, Dom/Hbf and Breslauer Platz/Hbf at the respective ends of the station. The station has 11 main line passenger track platforms, of which two are used for S-Bahn services; the two subterranean Stadtbahn stations have two tracks each. Its IATA code is QKL.

The station's building also hosts a large shopping mall, the Colonaden.

The Bad Boys from Boston, American rockers Aerosmith headlined the first of two nights of the Calling Festival newly relocated to South London’s Clapham Common.

The Steven Tyler-led rockers brought their unique blend of entertaining rock to a damp London evening, re-energising the sodden crowd with a mixed set drawn from their extensive back catalogue as well a cover of The Beatles 1969 hit Come Together. They began the 18-song set with Mama Kin from their 1973 eponymous debut album before moving onto Get a Grip hit Eat the Rich and Pump classing Love in an Elevator.

Hits Walk This Way and Dude (Looks Like a Lady) also featured before the encore was opened with classic Dream On featuring Tyler playing piano and Joe Perry playing guitar … on the piano!

It’s surprising just how much energy the 66-year-old Tyler and 63-year-old Perry convey up on stage with such engaging performances and on-stage hijinks that kept the crowd enthralled from the outset until the closing bars of Toys in the Attic classic Sweet Emotion.

He began as a speck on the horizon.

My attention was drawn to the waves and the wind and I thought no more about the speck until it came closer.

Then I could see him, walking barefoot on the edge of the water, at that point where the water reaches the shore but withdraws leaving a shimmering film of shining shells.

He had his faithful dog with him, walking along looking up at him every now and again, but never leaving his side. His pawprints lingered in the sand for a few moments before being washed away by the next wave.

I watched his measured approach, seeing saltwater on his face, the spray of the sea mixed with silent tears.

I smiled. He smiled.

He stood for a moment looking up at the clouds then whispered

"I'm just waiting for my son."

Two police radio operators at work in a control room.

We think this image depicts officers of Bolton Borough Police and dates from the early 1960s.

The 1960s saw the use of personal radios become increasingly commonplace in policing and the role of the radio operator come to the fore.

The equipment seems primitive compared to today’s multi-channel digital systems used by police forces today but was probably highly developed for the period.

Some of murals and sculptures which decorate Callejon de Hamel in Havana.

The inconspicuous entrance to the small alleyway of Callejon de Hamel hides behind an explosion of colourful Afro-Cuban culture.

The work of resident artist Salvador Gonzalez, the walls of the buildings along this small stretch in Centro Habana are decorated with numerous large and bright murals.

The paintings, along with sculptures and statues at street level, represent the various religious movements of African origin present in Havana.

At weekends, the street is also home to traditional Afro-Cuban music and dance.
