EXPLORED

I was about to use a polarizing filter, when I found I liked the reflection of the snowy pavement over the cakes.

I only noticed when I was looking at the image later, that this must be the same chain as the other cake shop I took a photo of recently, as the cake layout is the same (or very similar) and the green paint below the window is the same, yet the shops are about 6 miles apart!

Macro-Mondays-Eraser

Mr. Dummy is holding a piece of his cake. I have a lovely collection of dessert erasers. This one is Yellow Cake With Vanilla Buttercream Icing. The Strawberry and Mint Leaf are bonuses. Bon Appetit Everyone!

This cake was a favour for my friend Ben who fixed my laptop. It was a joint birthday cake for his two girls aged 3 and 6.

Cake with plum and raspberrie

Snowflake wedding cake for close family friends!

6 inch almond cake with almond butter cream, 9 inch strawberry cake with coconut butter cream, 12 inch chocolate cake with oreo cookie butter cream, and 15 inch raspberry swirl cake with vanilla butter cream. All cakes are covered in fondant then air brushed in "pearl",

The snowflakes are gumpaste, airbrushed in 'pearl' and covered in edible glitter!! 99 % of the snowflakes are attached to the cake by wires. The ribbon at the base of each tier is silk organza with irredesent glitter throughout the ribbon. There are very tiny lights on the cake, but the light wasn't very good when I snapped this photo, so you can't tell they're on there!!

We had another cake treat and oh my, was this one good.

Try large and thank you for your favourites. :)

i still haven't plucked up the courage to make my own,but keep on buying them at the cupcake store..

Demo cake for my class last weekend for tasting and to become acquainted with fondant :-)

This recipe is really good and I thought using red liners would be nice with the rhubarb. I am a dork.

Rhubarb Streusel Cakes -

For topping

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon salt

5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1/2 lb fresh rhubarb stalks, cut into 1/4-inch dice

3 tablespoons confectioners sugar

For cake batter

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup whole milk

Special equipment: a nonstick muffin pan with 12 (1/2-cup) muffin cups

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375°F. Generously butter muffin cups and top of pan.

Make streusel for topping:

Whisk together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Blend in butter with your fingertips until mixture forms small clumps.

Make batter:

Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Beat together butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed until blended, about 2 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until fluffy, about 1 minute. Reduce speed to low and add flour mixture and milk alternately in 2 batches, beginning and ending with flour mixture and mixing until just combined.

Top and bake cakes:

Divide batter among muffin cups (each cup will be about half full). Toss rhubarb with confectioners sugar and sprinkle batter with rhubarb, then crumble streusel evenly on top. Bake in middle of oven until tops are golden and a tester inserted in center of a cake comes out clean, 22 to 25 minutes. Cool cakes in pan on a rack 3 minutes, then loosen edges of cakes with a small sharp knife or small metal spatula. Remove cakes from pan and put on rack to cool slightly.

I went to market hall again today, just to buy a birch whisk for use tonight in sauna, and some lime for juice. I walked past this bakery-shop and took this. This shop is again one of my faves in market hall, and I just love that painting in their wall.

This is my niece's cake for her 2nd birthday.

It's from the kids' show, Fifi and the Flowertots. I didn't know what it was and had to research it on youtube. I watched it numerous times to get details of her house, and the opening song got stuck in my head for a week! LOL!

My niece loved her cake :)

A little backstory: I hate cooking. I am bad at it. I have had more cooking disasters (including destroying a microwave and burning spaghetti) than I care to recount. Now I know I have to bake a cake to photograph for chocolate cake day and not only does it have to be edible but it has to look good. After the cake is baked (that turned out okay), I have to ice it, but there is no way I can do that smoothly so my son suggests I puts some curls of chocolate to mask the unevenness of the frosting. That doesn't work out. So then he suggests chopping up chocolate chips instead. We go with that creating a cloud of chocolate dust that I will be finding pieces of a month from now. We sprinkle that on top. It looks a bit like we sprinkled on dirt. Not good.

End result: Macro shot not showing the frosting.

We bought this at Walmart Friday...it is good!

It was a scrumptious morning tea!

Made this for a co worker's birthday. It's a chocolate sponge cake, filled with strawberry jam and some vanilla cream on top. He asked me to bring one of my famous cakes *lol* How could I have said no?!

More cake shots to come as we had three birthdays last week and I was busy baking cakes ;-)
