The Big Bell mine lay idle from 1912 to 1935, when the Coen Company acquired mining rights to the property. After a preliminary testing period, the Coen Company opened operations in earnest on the Big Bell site, and established a camp. Eight men were put to work in March of 1936. A ball mill was erected at the property, as well as cyanide tanks, and a pipe line was constructed from Keane Springs down to the mine, via Chloride Cliff. Due to the virtual inaccessibility of the mine, access was primarily down from Chloride Cliff, via an "improved" motorcycle trail, which was little more than a crude inclined cable road. A Mack truck chassis was modified and used to slowly winch supplies and men up and down the steep ridge. Keane Springs was improved and a pump house and pumping machinery installed. Operations at the mine, however, proved that overhead was too high or the ore content too low for profitable operation, and by the fall of 1937, the Coen Company had abandoned its efforts. Due to the extreme efforts required to haul its machinery back out of the mine site, everything was left in place. The Coen Company probably produced a small amount of gold bullion during its period of operation, but no production statistics are available.

I love MonoPrice.com. I seem to order something from them every few months. This batch had some digital audio cables for the receiver, and some of the USB and HDMI variety that you can never have too many of.

The cable company finally sent someone out to repair my cable after a week with no internet.

This is the free Cable Panel Vest pattern from the Lion Brand Yarn website made using Amazing Yarn in the Wildflower #203 colorway. I used 4 balls of yarn and size US7/4.5mm and US8/5mm needles. This vest was so fun to make and easy to pick up while on the train. The colors in the yarn are absolutely gorgeous. The price is nice too! The only change I made was to have the collar join in the center back rather than the shoulder side. I would definitely make this vest again.

A remarkable piece of engineering, the Langkawi Cable Car was awarded by The Malaysia Book of Records for ‘the Longest Free Span Single Rope Cable Car - total length of 919.5 meters’ and it is one of the steepest gradients in the world at 42 degrees.

Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the majestic Mat Chinchang Mountain range has been earmarked as one of the sites within the Langkawi Geopark development and it is part of the Mat Chinchang Formation, the oldest rock formation in the country with an age of about 550 million years.

Millennium Bridge, London. The cables terminate in a steel anchorage which is connected to the pilecap via two concrete walls. Underneath the pilecap twelve 28m deep 2.1m diameter reinforced concrete piles transfer the structural forces to the underlying clay. Maximum horizontal force at this point is 30MN or about 3,000 tonnes. (Source: Arup).

A Christmas present for my mother-in-law...I think it was about an inch/hour. One of those things I'll never make again. :)
