Ken (Pyrogenes Gruffer) has challenged me to take part in the 5 day black and white challenge. This is my first contribution.
It is a Plumed Whistling duck and it's the first time I have seen them here so I grabbed a few shots this morning before they continued their journey. As you can see it was raining and as they say ... "Great weather for ducks!".
I have been nominated by Bella Lisa to do the B&W challenge for 5 days - this is #2. My second nominee is Cheryl Wiens.
This second shot on day two of the B&W challenge series is of the Kingfisher Sculpture situated on High Street in our village (South Kyme), next to the river. There are several resident pairs of Kingfishers on the river and they can often be seen as a flash of blue as they speed along just above the river surface. Kingfishers have long been associated with the village and have been adopted as a symbol for the village. This sculpture was commissioned by the council in 1990 and was carved by Simon Todd.
If you would like to know more about our village community, you can visit the village website at www.south-kyme.co.uk/index.html
Taken for 12 months for dogs, challenge is BW SOOC with flash, at night.
So I tried over and over with this challenge, and nothing worked well. Even with note cards to angle the flash and kleenix over the flash, I still got hell hound eyes. And Lisette so hates the flash. So I'm posting this- as my best BW challenge try.
Funny story. I tried one more time to do this challenge while the dogs were sleeping Tues. morning before dawn. It was pitch black. They both were sleeping together. I took some shots-- then one dog moved. I thought I was photographing Lisette and so pleased to get her sleeping and at peace, with the flash going off. Too dark for me to tell- that it was Jake. Lisette had gone and hid in the corner !!! Only when I uploaded the photo did I see I had images of Jake sleeping. I like his photo so think I'll post it for 52 weeks for dogs, since I already did the BW challenge for Jake here. Lisette is much better at posing- and loves the camera- but hates the flash.

Day 4 of a 5-day B&W challenge. Looking north over frozen Cedar Bay, part of Pelican Lake, near Sioux Lookout, Canada. In B&W this could be a beach and sand dunes!
