If there is one song that can be attributed to a city like San Francisco, it should be "California Soul". Apparently multiple major artists have performed the song, but I love the Marlena Shaw version... her voice is so powerful! I just can't help but play the song in my head while walking on the streets of SFO. It is a great city... to visit, at least.
This was shot in Nov 2013 during my second visit to SFO, on a bright and sunny California day, possibly on Montgomery Street. The houses on these streets with some really steep elevation are particularly beautiful with some amazing views of the city on one side and the ocean and Golden Gate Bridge on the other.
Converted the pic to b&w for the on-going black and white challenge on facebook.

This pic is of my fave coffee shop in town, taken very early in the morning (that's why it's so empty!), just after I've dropped the children off at school, on a very rainy and dark morning, waiting for the shops to open.
I wanted to catch someone with an umbrella walking past the window, but of course, no-one walked on this side of the street, so the best I could get was someone across the road outside the ironmongers shop.
Taken, as per usual, with the 'Trusty iPhone'!

For the third day of the #BWchallenge I've chosen a portrait of a Nepali kid in Lumbini. The next photographer I choose for the "Black & White Challenge" is Pablo Ortega. I'm sure has some B&W jewels hiding somewhere.

This photo is part of a facebook B&W challenge. I had no idea what to do for my first shot so I looked to the Laddie for inspiration, and the laddie became the shot!!

I ran to my bedroom to call the police and lock the door. The bedroom was dark, I switched on the flashlight by my bed and was startled by what I saw. On the pillow was a gleaming knife and those haunting eyes from the laundry room. Sweat broke out on my forehead even though the room was ice cold. I turned to see what was behind me......but no one was no one there, all I heard was the soft sound of panting......my heart started racing.....

Jellyfish are so strange to my eye, it’s easy to make the mental just to an Alien Species among us, just waiting to take over. Of course taken at the “JellyFish Invasion” exhibit at the National Aquarium in Baltimore MD.

I was challenged to 5 B&W images in 5 days by Jeannie Debs. I sat thinking what should I photograph. I decided to start the challenge tomorrow and was getting ready for bed. Everyone was out for the evening and as I was turning out the lights I heard a strange noise and a yelp coming from the laundry. I walked over to investigate and saw a light coming from underneath the door. I remember turning off the light earlier. I crouched down to look underneath the door with my mirror and much to my shock this is what I saw.....

Since this is, in my opionion, my best Black and White shot 'til now, I'm going to try my luck with Ming Thein's black and white challenge. I plan to shoot some other pictures, in the hope that I get some better shots, but in the meantime this is the best i have.
My parent's neighbours. This road also takes right to our house, passing through the barn you see.
I shot this on the way back from a walk I took to shoot some landscape pictures, and there was this awesome atmosphere... The mountains in the background where nearly invisible to the naked eye, and everything was bathed in a awesome even light, so I quickly set up my tripod, and took this picture.

I've been challenged by my friend Brian (www.flickr.com/photos/bgdlynch/) to post a B&W photo each day for 5 days and in turn to nominate another person each day to do the same! This is my 1st day and today I nominate my good contact and friend Gary (www.flickr.com/photos/gkoiter/).
This picture is a self portrait from a few years back. I took it during a photography course learning to use an SLR camera better. Our teacher gave us a portrait photo with the assignment to recreate it, especially with respect to the lighting conditions. Not easy for the absolute beginner I was back then, but I am still pleased with the result.
B&W Challenge - Day 1
This is another on of my favorite black and white shots. I actually had to step on the tracks to shoot this picture, so I'm gonan try to submit it for the Ming Thein's black and white challenge. I originally planned to shoot new pictures, but forst i lacked inspiration, and now my laptop (ergo my only card reader) broke, so I've gone through my archives again, and this shot stood out. I really love it.
