Hydraulic buffers at Glasgow Central Station. While they could not stop a full-speed train, they can still and absorb the energy of the multi-tonne Pendelinos that service the West Coast main line. Then again, it's not like Pendelinos go that fast to begin with....

Remnants of the old railway line are still visible on the Coastal Link path along the River Adur in Shoreham. I liked the warm rusty colour on this axle and buffer in this evening's light.

The headstock of R 707, showing the buffers with the VR style scoop out of them (not sure why that was), the knuckle coupler which presumably swings out of the way to reveal a hook for the link-and-hook coupling method, and the class and number plates as well as the cowcatcher.
