The Buff-banded Rail can be found on Australia's east coast. It is a real skulker, and likes thickly vegetated areas close to water. Unusually, this bird is one of a pair that has taken up residence in the water feature of a village backyard.
This shot was taken at ISO3200, so the detail is a bit soft. But it's better than no shot at all and good enough right now for my 'one of each species' set.
Birders know
this is a great bird. In the US, this bird is found high in the Huachuca Mountains. After a long Jeep ride to the top of Carr Canyon, we found several pairs of these flycatchers.
06/06/2015 Carrie Nation Mine Trail, Madera Canyon, Santa Cruz Co., AZ. Rare & very local in the Santa Rita Mountains. This individual has been calling on territory for more than a week, don't know if it has a mate.
