These birds taunted me the whole trip - a new species that I never quite 'got'. Despite lying in wait for hours getting nothing but a tick infestation, and despite seeing or hearing them at five or six locations, this pic (rescued entirely by electronic darkroom magic) is probably the best of 100 attempts. They do tend to keep inside dense stream-side undergrowth but are not particularly shy or retiring.
Stiking colour and markings - in a more complete view the buff sides are quite stunning. Said to be declining due to loss of riverside vegetation from cattle and and burning.
