Sambucus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae.

The various species are commonly called elder or elderberry/elderflower.

The flowers of Sambucus nigra are used to produce elderflower cordial.

St-Germain, an American liqueur with faux-French branding, is made from elderflowers.

Hallands Fläder, a Swedish akvavit, is flavoured with elderflowers.

Despite the similarity in name, the Italian liqueur sambuca is mostly made with star anise and fennel essential oils extracted by vapour distillation.

It also contains elderflower extracts with which it is flavoured to add a floral note, to smooth and round off the strong liquorice flavour.

Ends up in berries which medicinal siropes etc. are made!

A beautiful, just beginning to blossom garden, a few blocks away from my house on someone's front lawn.

I lay down to take this shot, and was trying to keep the soft dandelion type plant in focus, but I think I like how it turned out better than what I was attempting to capture!

I really like the narrow and very selective depth of field in this shot, which is basically straight off the camera aside from some color and contrast touch ups!

By the way, everything in this photo is absolutely TINY. The tallest thing by far is the thistle-headed fluffy thing, and it was no more than 2 or 3 inches tall!

This year's baby is growing up, with horns budding, the babies will face ultra tough winter conditions near the top of the mountain. Mountain goats live their entire lives at high elevation. I hope this baby weathers the conditions well......

Looking for things to shoot indoors. I'm running out of ideas, soon I'll have to start harassing the cats again!

Agathe's auntie Georgia gave her a camera for Christmas. She has not put it down since. it''s a film camera. I'm going broke with tiny developing fees.

More wild flowers. I changed the method of making these cuties stand out.

Can you see the bug hiding?

Have a Merry Monday !

With the red hibiscus as a backdrop it reminds me of a slice of watermelon.

Budd Car turned Track Geometry Car, CN 1501 sits overnight at Pokegama Yard in Superior WI recently. Original built by the Budd company as CN D-108 in 1958, it was modified by CN around 2008. Still self propelled, it's now used to measure parameters including position, curvature, alignment of the track, smoothness, and the crosslevel between the rails. Photo taken with permission after my operational tour of duty was completed.
