Koishikawa Kōrakuen Garden (小石川後楽園) is in Koishikawa, Bunkyō, Tokyo, adjacent to Tokyo Dome City. It is one of two surviving Edo period clan gardens in modern Tokyo, the other being Kyu Shiba Rikyu Garden, and one of the oldest and best preserved parks in Tokyo.
The construction was started in 1629 by Tokugawa Yorifusa, the daimyo (feudal lord) of Mito han, and was completed by his successor, Tokugawa Mitsukuni.
Mitsukuni named this garden "Kōraku-en" (Kōraku means "enjoying afterwards") after a Chinese teaching of "a governor should worry before people and enjoy after people". The garden shows strong Chinese character in its design, as it was influenced by the West Lake of Hangzhou. (Wikipedia)

Part of a series I started a while ago (and yet to finish editing) where I've deepened the water colour to a navy blue..........and done a whole lot of clean-up. :-)

The sap is running in southern Vermont!
Another freakishly strange season begins.
My attempt at taking flowers in the wild under the tutelage of Just1Thing (aka David). According to David, taking photo of a flower is just like taking photos of chicks except that flowers haven't got cute butts :-)

Budding
I recently went for a photowalk… with a challenge. I was looking for signs of spring, without taking photos of traditional spring flowers
My first shot was of this magnificent tree, with its leaves starting to unfurl. The vibrant green, against the (partly) blue sky was very striking.

All art is but imitation of nature.-- Seneca (Letters from a Stoic - Letter LXV: On the First Cause)

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. --To Autumn. by John Keats

Sambucus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae. The various species are commonly called elder or elderberry.
The flowers of Sambucus nigra are used to produce elderflower cordial.
St-Germain, an American liqueur with faux-French branding, is made from elderflowers.
Hallands Fläder, a Swedish akvavit, is flavoured with elderflowers.
Despite the similarity in name, the Italian liqueur sambuca is mostly made with star anise and fennel essential oils extracted by vapour distillation. It also contains elderflower extracts with which it is flavoured to add a floral note, to smooth and round off the strong liquorice flavour.
