First proper bubble bath I think. It smelled of strawberries.

Snorkling/swimming with manatees in Florida, we rented an underwater camera. Chris took most of the pictures that morning (which turned out great) and then it was my turn. I think someone kicked their flipper creating all these bubbles. I was tickled that it turned out!

Living in a Bubble is an awkward attempt to describe that attitude that I realized I had for many years of my life- like I was untouchable in a way. I didn't think the dangers and disasters in life would seriously effect my world. I just floated above reality (in my own mind) without giving it much thought. I really wasn't aware of how devastating and harsh life in the real world could be.

Of course my bubble hit a snag and I was dropped and impaled suddenly and inescapably. Now I'm learning to heal and navigate through the perils of life. I'm finding that it's not all bad and what I've learned is helping me to become a more understanding and compassionate person.

I know, I know, I got all into it with this theme. That is one of the joys for me though, that I can use my art to articulate and communicate my ideas and experiences.

Now that I've done this little drawing with the bubble concept I have all kinds of ideas about how I can illustrate the idea better, Woo Hoo!

Bubble the helpful house brownie.

This most recent set of bubble photos were taken using a studio flash and plain old washing up liquid and water. The bubble doesn't last very long at all, between 30 and 60 secdonds, but the colours are great! The powerful studio flash allows me to use F/32 and ISO 100 which ensures the sharpest image.

Dendrites | Soap Bubble Freezing

Today’s subzero temperature (-10°C), calm wind and bright blue clear skies amounted to an irresistible invitation to photograph freezing soap bubbles. Herewith are a series of still images along with a relevant short video I produced 6 years ago showing the growth of dendrites in soap bubbles.

SERIES: FUN AROUND THE HOUSE

I found these drops amusing, together with the textures they have and the surreal tunnel they generate in my mind.

I'm dreaming dreams,

I'm scheming schemes,

I'm building castles high.

They're born anew,

Their days are few,

Just like a sweet butterfly.

And as the daylight is dawning,

They come again in the morning.

I'm forever blowing bubbles - lyrics by James Kendis, James Brockman and Nat Vincent

My son and I were playing with the bubbles. I was having a hard time getting any in focus. We'll be trying again as soon as the clouds clear.
