I present to you, my slightly modified '74 Chevy El Camino SS.

Dubbed 'El Laxante', for the uncanny effect of making the faint-hearted drop a deuce at the mere sight of it! ;)

This is my entry into the LUGNuts 100th Build Challenge!!

Participants were asked to pick a number from 1-100.

Each number corresponded to a mystery vehicle.

I picked # 74 and was given the following instructions:

"Any year Chevy El Camino or Ford Ranchero"

Lucky for me, 'stock' or 'custom' wasn't specified, so I had the freedom to give the old rig a few minor mods! ;)

Check out these glowing reviews in some of the Hobby's most respected media outlets:

Man, I had a lot of fun in 2022. Despite this being the most models I have built in a year by sheer volume, fewer of them are cars than in any year since I started building cars! I was inspired by a lot more different subject matter this year, I suppose. It's hard not to feel like a new generation of utterly outstanding LEGO car builders have swept in and utterly dominated the scene. Hats off to the new talent - y'all are incredible.

I was really driven by seed builds, contests, and challenges this year. A lot of my smaller models were created for seed builds within DFW LUG, such as the caulk gun and train tunnel. The Geo Tracker was created for the TLCB/BrickNerd Festival of Mundanity. My current WIP will be a submission to the new BrickLink Design Program. Limitation really does breed creativity sometimes.

Speaking of BrickNerd, as I recently mentioned, I am overjoyed to have joined the team as a contributor. My first article went up just a couple weeks ago, and I'll have another live in January!

My favorite things that I built this year, in no particular order, are probably:

- Kingdom Hearts: Twilight Town Clock Tower. A really fun build of some striking architecture, and I love being able to build things my spouse will love.

- Dino 246 GT, possibly my new favorite car model I've ever built.

- Hand Turkey. It makes me laugh.

I have to say, the output from the LEGO community this year was absolutely incredible, and I was constantly blown away by the skill, style, and vision of so many people from all over the globe. More than anything in 2023, I look forward to being inspired by all of you all over again. Happy New Year!

2015 was my first year in the online LEGO community, and I was able to participate in a bunch of neat contests and group builds.

I started the year by joining Kaliphlin in Guilds of Historica, and Challenge IV kept my very busy. I also was invited to InnovaLUG, which has been a ton of fun to be a part of, especially for the Isles of Aura group projects and ABS Contest. Speaking of ABS, I got to compete in round 1.2, and ended up winning! Later, I started building for Andromeda's Gates on Eurobricks which got me donig a lot of sci-fi stuff.

Isaac and I did quite a few collabs this year, including our biggest build ever, The City of Katoren, and several entries for the CCC.

I just reached 400 followers, and received over 100 faves on a build for the first time (The Red Feather Inn). Through the year, I was featured on the front page of Eurobricks, and Classic-Castle, as well as several other blogs, like Bricknerd.

And near the end of the year, I joined RochLUG, and displayed some builds publicly for the first time.

So quite a year! I ended up creating almost 60 builds, in several different themes. If you have a favorite(s) I'd love to hear them.

I plan on being quite active again in 2016, hopefully attending Brickfair VA, so it'd be great to meet some of you there :)

Rorschach (Watchmen)

Made for Nervember 2021 contest on Bricknerd.

One theme was to build a comics character bust taking size model on exclusive event sets.

There is still a few time to enter the contest and win the possibility to have a custom cover art based on your creation.

My character choice was rorschach from the watchmen comics.

I love so much this one and the way the face is changing from one emotion to another.

What was funny by building this one is it was the same for me, making the face design several time, one time making it too agressive, one time too happy... to finally find a balance I feel...

Simple yet recognizable.

Built for NERDvember on BrickNerd.

When I was invited to contribute a MOC to the Comic Bricks art show at DesignerCon 2014, I knew instantly what comic I'd use. I read this ravenously as a kid, and holding it again was a genuine pleasure. Took three days, but it's finally done!

I pretentiously blogged myself too, what an egomaniac bricknerd.com/home/star-wars-1-6-2014

UPDATE: Someone actually purchased this at the show. It was mine for only a day. I have mixed feelings.

.... and we're back!

And with a bang... this has definitely been the weirdest, hardest, Brickworld ever: the first since the Pandemic (or as Casey's pastor put it, the 'blip'), family issues, and a lot of LEGO quality issues, it was a bit of a struggle... but the People. The builds. The food ... made it all worthwhile.

I always struggle with these posts, how do I properly convey the feelings from the past week ? the fun, generosity and caring that people showed? ... there's so much ... but a few things will really touched my heart:

Casey - spent a few days with my BrotherBley/AccountaBuildaBuddy helping him finish his beautiful monastery.

Cube Games - thank you InnovaLUG, OrphanLUG, Bricknerd, RebelLUG, EuroBricks for spending some time hanging out and doing some fun challenges (post to follow) and of course Markus - my partner in crime, I have no words on the impact you've had and the mischief achieved

That concert was GARBAGE (and Tears for Fears) - Nick - that was so great thank you for kidnapping me :)

RebelLUG - Absitonia was ... utterly insane. It's been awhile since I've been so impressed with a collaborative build with that amount of detail

Orphanage - Dan nailed it and such sweet and personal builds form us all.

Micah - the father's day card. You're going to make me cry man.

Dave - #BeTheDave - the true Spirit of Brickworld.

Absconding with Jonah's Best vignette trophy, getting a judges award for ... something? we're not really sure what it was for.

.... I could go on and on about all the new people I meet, the old friends reconnected, the builds, so many builds, and may builds I didn't get a good chance to dissect, Tim finally getting his due .... ack.

I'll just leave it off here - and see you next year everyone.

Just an up-front note: this was originally based off Bricknerd's truck design here: www.flickr.com/photos/bricknerd/28056044334/in/dateposted/

Basically what I've done is take Bricknerd's truck design, and tweak it to have working suspension. The green liftarms should actually be the 1x2 rubber liftarms, but those aren't present in LDD.

My first time playing around with this, the suspension wasn't stiff enough for anything more than a flat car. This design is tweaked a bit more, and now underneath the pivot is an area where you can add 1-2 extra rubber liftarms as needed to support the load.

This truck design is 1 plate taller than Bricknerd's original, and the pivot is slightly longer; but otherwise keeps all the functionality and most of the looks of the original design. Having the truck a plate higher has for me been a good thing, since it gives the wheels a bit more clearance when the suspension is depressed.

When I saw this car parked on the street some time ago it was not mundane at all, as it is a rare sight these days, and I did have to look twice. Through some online research I learned that today the International Harvester Scout (here version 2 or II of the 1970s up to 1980) is considered an offroad classic, often tuned up with big wheels, winch, bumper, extra lights, flashy color schemes etc. However, you can also find the original advertisements of the time when this car was new, and you realize that back in the day this was one of the most mundane vehicles around. It was targeted at families and/or people with a dog, like these two minifigs, who wanted to go on weekend trips or just use the rig to haul groceries, the most mundane thing to do on four wheels... I find it curious that International Harvester had once turned from manufacturing farm equipment to practically inventing the SUV and the mundane lifestyle associated with it. The mundane look of my bricked MOC version of the IH Scout results from a lot of SNOT-, hinge-, jumper- and bracket use. It fits two minifigures side-by-side in front, as well as a dog (or groceries) in the back.

I had wanted to realize this classic in Lego bricks ever since I had seen the one on the street but I had never been sure of its modest looks which make it so inconspicuous as a MOC. Now, exactly these characteristics of the IH Scout 2 stock version in an advertisement style setting make it apt as an entry to the Festival of Mundanity, I hope.

I wrote an article for Bricknerd about the new LOTR Brickheadz sets and how the principles that define brickheadz figures can be expanded and applied to other subjects, like furniture or landscapes. Here's one of the builds I came up with. You can read the full article and check out the rest of my builds here:

Got inspired after researching owl-builds for an upcoming article for BrickNerd, so I decided to build one myself :) youtu.be/gcMEPNMaUv8?si=tXy7Sh9XumFYMoGb

Seeing LegoWyrm's recent Cyberpunk Edgerunner chibi figures inspired me to finally try building some chibi figures for myself... especially as he was so kind to share building instructions. They provided me with a great starting point, and I definitely learned a lot about how his characters come to life.

His "frame" is a little larger scale that the original standard that MikeVD came up with, and it was interesting to compare (I think mine here falls somewhere in between the two). I know that MikeVD has already build chibi versions of Chisato and Takina from LycoReco himself, so looking forward to comparing them (I already know that the parts he used for the leather bags were perfection)... and if you haven't watched the anime series "Lycoris Recoil" yet, it is a must watch.

I also plan to interview both Mike and Javier about their chibi figures in an upcoming article for BrickNerd and I'm looking forward to learning more about how they have developed and refined their signature chibi building styles.

A classic swedish outhouse from a distant time...

Often you planted syringa (lilac) around the outhouses to prevent (cover up) odor. You'll see them behind the outhouse, in the videoclip.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryvAp7uDoNc

So, since a few years I've gotten alot of attention for character builds, which I really enjoy building. Now I wanted to see if I could build something else. I have no clue why an outhouse was first on my list, so dont ask... Anyways, seemed like a fun challange and a potential to try some new techniques. It was a really fun build and I'll probably explore this genre abit more in the future.

And if you're wondering, it's actually really sturdy. No loose parts and you can tilt the whole structure almost 90 degrees before the hutbase would fall out of its socket from the grassy hill.

I was told there would be bonus points...

I am the one who knocks!

Bryan Cranston plays Mr. Walter White in the series Breaking Bad.

In my humble opinion, the best acting performance I've seen on TV.

His character goes through some changes in the series, this portrait is from the end of season 4. A rather stressful time for Mr. White...

If you havent seen the series yet... I envy you!

Another digital creation. Seems like it's the only thing I have time to build theese days.

Finnius Sharp was a powerful Sea-Sorcerer and Captain of the "Sirens Lament".

So confident of his magical and seafaring abilities he pursued a spanish treasure galleon into the fearsome whirlpool known as the devils throat. When the majority of his crew abandoned ship he used his spells to navigate the ship with just a skeleton crew of his three most trusted lieutenants - binding them to his craft against their will.

His ship went down tethered to the Galleon by some foul magic triggered by his greed for gold. Such was his lust for the treasure that his soul was bound to the Spanish gold and the surrounding environs of the galleons wreck. HIs crew were stuck with him and each mutated. The most valuable and cursed treasure itself took on a life of its own and became a creature in its own right....

Left to Right

Bosun Robert Logan - a fearsome bare knuckle Fighter - his first became mighty claws and his mouth a tentacled beak! His fearsome temper spiralling even further out of control. Has developed a terrible lisp and is responsible for giving the magical chest it's nickname "Trevor"

Cap'n Finnius now roams the sea as a shark. attacking small sloops and killing the crews to reanimate them as skeleton crew... He uses "trevor as bait" to lure in bigger prizes and then sends them down to the deep as food for later their booty goes over the side aswell!

"Trevor" is creature born of foul magic that cursed Finniues. He cannot leave Finnius side, neither can Finnius escape from him even if he wanted to. Trevor takes great pride in taunting the Captain with the finest booty stored within his gaping maw. Trevor enjoys maiming anyone who comes close enough to pick up the occasional coin he burps up and enjoys his role as Lure (it means he gets fed regularly).

Ships lookout and Nightwatchmen Linus Hooper became Lantern Fish - cursed to patrol the deep in service to Cap'n Finnius for the rest of eternity. A frightful insomniac - he can't sleep with the light on and can't even close his eyes...

Aiden Moore - a loyal but not particularly bright crewman - the only one not to abandon ship when the "Sirens Lament" entered the whirlpool. Fearless and not quite the full sea biscuit you don't want to make an anemone out of him..

I finally reworked my Ford Explorer! I completely redesigned the front, sides, back, windows, and frame. I think it looks 100% better now and I hope y'all enjoy building it as much as I did!

Last month, I've joined the BrickNerd team. Yeeehaaa! I'll try to share useful and fun content, so stay tuned!

But now, it's time for another awesome contest - Nerdvember! The theme is Comics and you'd have to build an Event Exclusive type build. The prizes are insane - only exclusive sets. And the grand prize is even crazier - your build turned into a comics cover art by the same amazing artist that's doing the exclusive sets art! Say whaaaaat :D

I can't win the cover art (damn it!) or the other prizes, but I still can build stuff, so here it is, the nerdiest Bad Batch character - Tech. Cause you can build one of 3 different things for the contest - a character bust, an iconic scene or a ship/ vehicle. Or all 3!

Everything about the contest here.

Pew-pew!

Built for NERDvember contest on BrickNerd

The raccoons have taken their dumpster diving to the seven-seas! The world's oceans are no longer a deterrent to their scavenging and plundering.

Their island hideaway is where they guard their loot and barter with other rogue, swashbuckling wildlife. And it is nearly impenetrable thanks to their trashcan cannons that pelt would-be invaders with soda cans, pies, and basketballs.

The hideaway is also home to the renowned Grubby Paw tavern. Can you even say you've really swash-buckled without having thrown back a pint of egg-grog at the Grubby Paw?

This is my first big MOC! Since it's for BrickNerd's pi-RATS and BUG-aneers contest celebrating 90 years of Lego, I wanted to build something that channeled the love I have for chaotic mishmash creations. Lego Friends is my favorite theme and what pulled me out of my dark ages, so marrying 90s' Pirates with a Friends color pallets seemed like a fun project!

Built for NERDvember on BrickNerd.

My new project, inspired by a custom barrel car I bought an eternity ago on €b@y, required barrels far bigger than the standard Lego 4x4x3.5 ones.

I searched the Web to find something suitable but had no luck and decided to start from scratch. Among the various approaches that I tried this one seems viable; however I thought I'd share it with you guys before I go on in case you have better ideas :-)

Second point is the color - the real barrels are made of oak, reddish brown just doesn't look right for it, and so I ended up with medium dark flesh (LDD: "medium nougat"). What do you think?

Feedback welcome!

Built for the BrickNerd contest: bricknerd.com/home/build-a-nerdly-and-win-big-2-5-2021

I know they said it wasn't a Star Wars contest, but I couldn't help myself!

A connection I worked out while building a SHIP for the BrickNerd “pi-RATS & BUG-aneers!” contest

Because it had to be done...

As was announced today, I will be joining up with other community-minded AFOL's in revitalizing BrickNerd. Earlier this year, many of us were lamenting the continued lack of community coverage on the mainstream LEGO blogs (TBB being one). They commonly neglect to mention all of the community driven contests and events that inspired those creations they blog about to be built in the first place.

Dave Schefcik has seized on the opportunity to take over the reigns of BrickNerd from Tommy, and along with Simon Liu and others we hope to remedy this by evolving it into a community minded hub. With Keith having mothballed ye old Manifesto blog, there also hasn't been a good home for my occasional commentary on the community. That was probably for better... but nonetheless, since the fellow BrickNerds seems amenable to me posting stuff like that, I'm all on board. Excited to be a part of the team!

Since its maiden flight in 1955, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk has become the world’s most produced airplane with more than 44,000 units made. The single-engine, 4-seat, high-wing aircraft is still in production today.

My Great Northern EMD NW3, finally done in real bricks!

The NW3 was EMD's first attempt at a road switcher, launched in 1939. The concept was simple: they took the hood of a NW2 and mounted it on a stretched frame, gave it Blomberg B road trucks, a bigger fuel tank, a boiler under the wide hood section, and a much larger cab, but kept the switcher-derived end cab arrangement. The engine remained unchanged, too: a V12 567 rated at 1000hp

Soon after, EMD gave up this concept and the successor NW5 adopted the now-standard arrangement with a off-center cab between short and long hoods that ALCO had brought up with its RS-1.

Only seven NW3s were built, numbered 5400 through 5406; all went to the GN, most of them being traded-in to EMD in the 60s. There used to be one NW3 still in service back when I started my project, but sadly it got scrapped by the end of 2018 after almost 80 years of duty. There’s now one sole surviving NW3; it’s on static display in Whitefish, MT.

Some remarks on the model:

- The first LDD version dates back to March 2016, so with all the ons and offs it took me more than three years to finalize it.

- The model is built of about 885 parts, which is about 120 parts less compared to its NW5 sister model. The main reason is the spartan color scheme compared to the Emperor Builder scheme, which let me use panels and large bricks instead of stacks of plates for stripes.

- The detailed interiors of both the engine hood and the cab probably wouldn’t have been possible if I’d had to squeeze in a battery box. For a project like this, the 9V system is still the best choice*

- MOD WARNING: the motor side frames got the minifig head-shaped part cut off to give room for the Blomberg swing bolster.

Special thanks go to Andy from OKBrickWorks for taking care of the stickers — I’m not good at this, and without his excellent work, the locomotive would most certainly be plain black :-)

Finally, many thanks to all of you for following the journey, and for all your comments and suggestions — please keep them coming!

(*) At one point during the design process I had thought about modding one of my 9V motors to get a PFx Brick in the power loop, plus loudspeaker and LED lights. That’s not off the table, Michael — might be a mid term evolution path!

BattleSHIP is cruel and unusual punishment for builders, but it sure is fun to watch when it's not your SHIP.

Sadly this was mine.

I know, i said i wouldn't do another character, but Mel Blogged me! and among the kind things she said she mentioned:

"Now if someone can just create Mei then my life will be made :) "

Don't say I never did anything nice for you - here you go Mel: Mei (iceblocked)

Another year of building has come to an end, so I guess it's time for the mandatory collage ;)

Had another great year with a lot of fun. As you can see in the collage, I continued to have a hard time staying within one specific theme...haha!

Some of the highligts from the past year include:

- 9 builds being published on TBB (big thanks to all the writers over there!).

- My Vic Viper Dragonfly being one of the top-10 mocs of the week over at Brickvault.

- Reached over 1,1 K followers here on Flickr!

- Finished 3rd in the AFOL vs AFOL contest over on Swebrick.

- Even had a build find its way on to Bricknerd and another on Archbrick.

All in all it's been an awesome year and I already have a lot of builds coming up so it doesn't look like I'll be slowing down anytime soon, haha!

Lastly and most importantly I would just like to give a big thank you to all the people out there who have followed me and comented/faved my builds, it really means a lot to me. So thanks everyone!

I've been known to build the occasional mundane car now and again, so when Bricknerd & The LEGO Car Blog announced their Festival of Mundanity, it was a perfect opportunity to try another: the 1990 Geo Tracker, as seen parked next to the mailboxes in my apartment complex's parking lot.

Just a little build to help promote that BrickNerd is plugged back in, and we are throwing a "Nerdly Strikes Back" contest to celebrate. I can't win the prizes, but you sure can. Additional info in the contest announcement on BrickNerd
