Remember how I made a pear-nectarine pie for Pi(e) Day, and I said it was the most delicious thing I have ever made in my life? Yeah that pie has been de-throned.
Homemade bread + golden raisins and this recipe, roughly followed.
The sauce is sugar, butter, marmalade, and deliciously strong homemade vanilla.

Home made bread pudding... or, as Steve would call it (as I've mentioned before) bread and butter pudding ;) I was able to enjoy it with hot custard too... ambrosia custard from Devon! hehe... I'm pleased that's there's some things from England that I can actually get in California... now if only I could find somewhere that sells galaxy chocolate... for now I've got Steve to send it over ;)
Day .82.
I found a months-old package of Henry Higgin's bagels tucked away in the back of the freezer, and after trying to revive one of them I decided that I'd be better off using them as bread pudding stock. I made one conventional (ish; I only had one cup of milk, so I faked a second cup by 2/3rds cup of 50/50, 1/3rd cup water) Fanny Farmer bread+butter pudding, but I also made a vegan brown sugar+maple syrup recipe (from online; food.com) to see if it would work.
It worked. Too well; the pudding was mainly gone (I reserved some to take back to Henry Higgin's because one of the staff asked if she could have a sample) before I remembered to provide evidence of participation.
Alas, this means I've got to make another recipe -- hopefully the non-vegan recipe will be similarly popular with the non-vegan part of my household (and that would be everybody else, though my children have, for some bizarre reason, decided they don't like bread pudding) and won't go to waste.
I finally can share my recipes as well as my pictures!

STROBIST INFO: Sony A100 w/Minolta 50mm 1.7 lens, Minolta 5400 HS flash used wirelessly on stand through white umbrella behind my right shoulder to counter the harsh glare through the window at 1/4 power. One of my first strobist attempts. I like how the light drops off into darkness on the left.

Dude...so awesome. $12.50 is a lot, but for whatever reason I forgot how much it cost when I started eating it. ;D
(I shared it! Don't worry.)
What to do with bananas that have gotten a little soft and black? Bread pudding with bananas on top! Yum!

I don't normally "like" bread pudding but after I saw the glazed fruit topping, I could not resist. This was taken a couple of weeks ago at La Bagette at the Stanford Shopping Center. (Lucy . . if you're viewing this . . . I missed you that day I went with the hubs and Toby! LOL!)
Just a word of warning: I have become hopelessly addicted to this stuff, so proceed with caution.
Heat the oven to 150°c
Cut up a loaf of fluffy white bread or about 10 to 12 slices of fluffy white toast into approx. 2 cm by 2 cm squares and fit them snugly into an oven dish.
Mix together 2 eggs
2 tbs. of melted butter
2,5 dl sugar
0,5 dl vanilla sugar or 2 tbs. vanilla essence
5,5 to 6 dl milk until sugar has dissolved and pour over the bread cubes.
Chop up a generous handful (I use two handfuls since my hands are small) of pecan nuts and sprinkle over the top.
Bake for 50 to 55 min.
Let cool a little and serve with vanilla sauce.
Again, if you become addicted to this stuff, remember that I did warn you. ;)

Egg, milk, vanilla mixture for bread pudding with sole.
Bread pudding made with sourdough bread with cubes of sole embedded. This was an experiment and I do believe it worked, although I wouldn't serve it to guests on account of it being a tad outre, unless I lived in Cincinnati where, from what I can see, apparently they'll eat anything. No offense intended. Just say'n.
This is an extreme taste treat for taste extremists, like myself. Not for the faint of tongue or stomach nor for children.
* two eggs
* one cup milk, approximately
* 1/4 onion, diced
* two celery stalks, diced
* two cups cubed sourdough bread, approximately
* two sole filets
* one tablespoon vanilla, here's where it gets a little weird
* one tablespoon raw horseradish, told ya it was strange
* 1/8 teaspoon habanero powder
* S/P
Salad
* Romaine
* tomato
* 1/2 avocado
* olive oil/rice vinegar
* S/P
It took forever for the bread to soak up the liquid mixture so I hastened the process by squeezing the bread like a sponge.
