It's kind of like the grossest milkshake ever.

Savory bread pudding made with foraged chanterelle mushrooms, fresh herbs and Mt. Townsend Creamery's delicious "Trailhead" cheese.

Best restaurant near Ithaca NY!

Mom loved this Woman's Day magazine recipe. [The same mysterious issue that we didn't pick up at the grocery store but miraculous wound up in our bags. Wasn't even on our receipt???)

4 large eggs

1 qt. canned or refrigerated eggnog

10 slices raisin-cinnamon swirl bread

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Coat a 2-qt. shallow baking dish with nonstick spray.

2. Whisk eggs in a large bowl until blended. Whisk in eggnog.

3. Cut 4 slices of bread into 1" cubes. Arrange them over the bottom of the dish. Pour half the eggnog mixture over the top. Cut remaining slices in half diagonally and arrange decoratively on top. Pour remaining eggnog mixture over everything.

4. Bake uncovered 55 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm or at room temp. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar if desired.

Serves 8

Variations:

Add ground or freshly grated nutmeg to eggnog mixture. Sprinkle with chocolate chips before baking.

Soak golden raisin and dried cherry blend (Sun- Maid) in rum and scatter over the bread cubes under the decorative slices.

Alternately, heaven.

with Hazelnut Ice Cream, Caramel and Chocolate Sauce, $8 at Frascati, 1901 Hyde Street in San Francisco (415-928-1406)

Apple Raisin Bread Pudding.

Recipe here at slowlikehoney.net

after a dinner party I had some leftover amazing bread, made breadpudding and then had this nice homemade dessert with a topping of ice cream from Mitchell's down the street from me.

Bread pudding with cubed sole.

Bread pudding made with sourdough bread with cubes of sole embedded. This was an experiment and I do believe it worked, although I wouldn't serve it to guests on account of it being a tad outre, unless I lived in Cincinnati where, from what I can see, apparently they'll eat anything. No offense intended. Just say'n.

This is an extreme taste treat for taste extremists, like myself. Not for the faint of tongue or stomach nor for children.

* two eggs

* one cup milk, approximately

* 1/4 onion, diced

* two celery stalks, diced

* two cups cubed sourdough bread, approximately

* two sole filets

* one tablespoon vanilla, here's where it gets a little weird

* one tablespoon raw horseradish, told ya it was strange

* 1/8 teaspoon habanero powder

* S/P

Salad

* Romaine

* tomato

* 1/2 avocado

* olive oil/rice vinegar

* S/P

It took forever for the bread to soak up the liquid mixture so I hastened the process by squeezing the bread like a sponge.

Remember how I made a pear-nectarine pie for Pi(e) Day, and I said it was the most delicious thing I have ever made in my life? Yeah that pie has been de-throned.

Homemade bread + golden raisins and this recipe, roughly followed.

The sauce is sugar, butter, marmalade, and deliciously strong homemade vanilla.
