I had the close-up filter on my Sigma 70-300 and focusing was a PIA. Took it off for the later shots.
I must say, this lens redeemed itself to me today.
This glossy ibis is in his winter outfit, making him harder to identify from his cousin, the white-faced ibis.
Went to Brazosbend and walked a few miles, ran into this guy toward the end of the trail. It was either pass him or walk miles back the other way! As you can see, I took my chances!

up to 3.5 feet wing span & 35" high.
The brown neck designates female.
They can maneuver under water & wings get waterlogged so they need to dry them later.With the head & some of the neck above water they appear to be a snake.
