They're lovely birds, but they sure do love slushing through the muck.

 

Where's the white face? Good question. Out of breeding season, they turn grey. During breeding season, the face is red with a big white stripe around the edge.

A gulf fritillary (I think) shot from beneath -- result is severe backlighting...

And the only alligators we saw were baby ones in the visitor's center!

Weather's been great lately. Finally getting some rain here and there. FINALLY got to do some photography - as opposed to Instagram.

 

This is a 30sec exposure at f/11 using a R72 infrared filter. Swapped the red and blue channels in post.

Down in Brazos Bend State Park on May 9th, I caught this Black-bellied whistling duck walking up the tree. He was treading carefully so as not to fall off. It was comical to watch.
