Common moorhen on Elm Lake, Brazos Bend State Park, near Rosharon, Texas. These birds were pretty thick all over the lake and every 20 seconds or so, something would set them all to cackling like the sky was falling. Or maybe that is about how often one got taken by a gator....

A glossy ibis strolling along the north side of 40 Acre Lake, Brazos Bend State Park. Correction -- White Faced Ibis...

Gators were grunting all morning at Brazos Bend State Park. This is said to be mating calls.

Brazos Bend State Park. Not sure of the species. Any one know? I'm guessing its a young bird.

Brazos Bend Hiking Tip: be very aware where you shove your face onto. Webs spun by wily spiders abound.

Several of the younger gators could be found near the boardwalk.

   

The sun was setting behind the trees, the low-hanging spanish moss looked like they were on fire.

Make no mistake about it. This guy is huge! The body alone is about 4 inches. Spiders and webs were everywhere. I had to be very aware where I was walking and shoving my face into.
