Pie Billed Grebe over around pier 1 at Elm Lake

Okay... so, it's probably some kind of warbler. But that's as close as I can get to an id.

Ha! From the blog -- it's a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher! (I'd have never known that. Thanks, Dorothy!)

Southeast Texas has had significantly lower rainfall than usual this spring.

The alligators did not mind us for the most part, but once in a while they would turn their gaze at people on the banks and swim slowly forward.

I, for one, was ready to bolt at the first sign of danger --- inspite of repeated warnings not to make sudden movements around them.

A very photogenic Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Brazos Bend State Park, August 2nd, 2014

This is how the credits go....

1-kinjotx brought his very nice scope...

2-mlsnp actually took the picture through the scope...

3-txfireguy's camera and I probably was within 5 foot of the scope, if it counts!

Thanx Guys...especially to kinjotx, because without him carrying all of his equipment, we would not have been able to see or get shots like this!

They are EVERYWHERE in Brazos Bend State Park.

The slightly crooked skyline resulted from the stitching process. I could have straighted it, but at the expense of some of the angle of view (it currently nears 180 degrees)

There's a lot more detail visible in the full-size version.

Also, compare to this one taken in August
