While in Texas visiting my brother we drove out to Brazos Bend State Park for 4-5 mile hike. It was perfect weather.
The American Alligator is the center piece of the numerous creatures in the Brazos Bend St Park. Alligators are considered adult when they are five feet long. They reach this size in about five years. There are over 500 adults in this 4000 plus acre park. Unfortunately visitors miss many of the other wonderful animals and bird when they focus on the allgators.
These big frogs were close to the bank on a lake at Brazos Bend State Park near Needville, Texas. My husband, Felton, and I enjoy the wildlife and photo opportunities there.
On Monday, Carl and I ate lunch in Lake Jackson at All-Star Pizza. We had the delicious buffet of pizza, calzones, and cookies. Afterwards we drove to Brazos Bend State Park where we saw some wildlife exhibits and saw some wildlife: butterflies, a deer, a snake, baby alligators, some birds, and a baby coyote?
Then we drove to the museum district of Houston. At the Houston Museum of Natural Science, we toured two exhibits: Terra Cotta Warriors and the Spirits & Headhunters: Vanishing Worlds of the Amazon. We also saw the skeletons of some dinosaurs and exhibits of animals from Africa.
We had planned to go to the Houston Zoo since it was open free to the public on Columbus Day, but they wouldn't let us inside since it was less than an hour before closing time. Instead we found Hermann Park with a pond, some ducks, some coy, a turtle, and some statues. It was a nice find at the end of the day.
We drove back to Lake Jackson and ate a most delicious steak at Salt Grass Steak House before returning to Carl's house for me to pack up and leave early the next morning.

Took a weeks vacation to visit south Texas and do a little wildlife hunting..My main goal was to photograph a few birds and get some Gator pics. I wasn't disappointed. We found alligators in quite a few different places but by far the most alligators we found was at Brazos Bend State Park. This a very scenic area with a lot of alligators. You just have to look very careful because they fit in their environment quite well. This is a very swampy area with plenty of cover.
