One of the most beautiful things on earth are new born babies, whether it is human or an animal. I found this little fawn at Brazos Bend State Park, playing and running around in a large field.

"One of our most familiar birds in rural areas and semi-open country, this swallow is often seen skimming low over fields with a flowing, graceful flight. It seems to have adopted humans as neighbors, typically placing its nest in barns or garages, or under bridges or wharves; indeed, it is now rare to find a Barn Swallow nest in a site that is not manmade. The species is also common across Europe and Asia, wintering to southern Africa and South America." Source: aububon.org

This is early light in the spillway at Brazos Bend. I don't know if I like this, or if I think it's gaudy. SE Texas. - 1/2024.

This is one of the cutest ducks I've ever seen. Not only does it look perpetually happy, its call sounds like it is blowing a toy whistle. This one was busily taking a bath while an alligator lazily swam by. It then flew up into a nearby dead tree, joining others of its kind to roost for the night.

This is one more short clip from May. Hurricane damage kept us out of the park for most of July and August. I'm looking forward to fall days and fall/winter birds. Brazos Bend State Park in SE Texas - 5/2024

The red legs and feet of a White Ibis match the colour of the long curved bill. The blue eye is striking. These birds stand out in their wetland habitat.

A monarch butterfly gathering nectar from white flowers. I seen this one and several others flying around this tree of flowers. I was wondering if maybe the tree was covered in some sort of flowering vine. I seen this while hiking Brazos Bend State Park, Texas.

I caught this bird while I was watching stilts. The low water level exposed prey, which attracted several wading bird species. This was a bright sunny day, but occasional clouds blocked the sun and allowed photography.

I have gotten to watch several baby Great Horned Owls start their new life at Brazos Bend State Park over the last couple of years.

Yellow-crowned Night Heron's are pretty common summer birds in SE Texas, but I still enjoy seeing and photographing them.

EXPLORED at #192 on February 13th. Thank y'all very much!!!

I was out hiking at Brazos Bend State Park, Needville Texas and there is a tree where cormorants and anhingas love to sit and enjoy the sunset views while drying their wings.

For years I marched around with a telephoto lens, ignoring the landscape. A few years ago I committed to carrying an additional camera with a standard lens to capture more of the world around me, which has been a lot of fun. Our landscape isn't the most attractive, but nice light has the ability to make just about anything pretty for a short time. Snow has a similar effect, but isn't much help in SE Texas. This is one of two great horned owlets that live currently at Brazos Bend State Park in Needville, TX. It was the fuzziest, cutest little owl I've ever seen. I wanted to hug it!
