A cormorant had just came up with a fish for breakfast. Believe it or not, this bird dropped the fish in the sequence of shots. Taken at Brazos Bend State Park.
An egret fishing in the morning light is visited by a not so welcome guest on 40 Acre Lake at Brazos Bend State Park. I guess this is why birds go missing ever so often. This was the alligator that approached the pier for a fine photo opportunity after the egret encounter.

Here's one more of the egret I posted a few days ago. The sun was over my right shoulder, and I picked up shadows on the beak. I still wanted to post one image of this bird looking forward.

The park looks beautiful this winter. However the abundance of water dwelling birds is lower than "normal", presumably because we had a dry summer and fall. Recent rains are improving conditions, and I hope for a good spring. Anyway, it's hard to complain about a morning like we had today., Brazos Bend State Park in SE Texas - 2/2025
The Yellow-crowned Night Herons at Brazos Bend are famous for their crawfish suppers. This is a common summer site at the Park. I remember this 2012 morning well. I was photographing a bird in the water, when I heard crunching behind me. I looked over my shoulder to find this heron right behind me. Fortunately, I was able to turn around without spooking the heron, and make a few images. Brazos Bend State Park in SE Texas. 6/2012.
This is from back in December of 2022. If there is enough water, we get some nice winter ducks. Brazos Bend State Park in SE Texas - 12/2022.
This White Ibis at Brazos Bend State Park, Texas, USA, has obtained a sizeable meal in the form of a Crayfish. That is the largest component of the diet of the species, but these birds also catch small fish and eat aquatic insects. White Ibis do not see their prey underwater, but rely on touch to locate it.
I am fascinated by these prehistoric-looking monsters. One look at this face leads me to thinking that only a mother could love its face lolol however on the other hand, the quiet deadliness of this creature, makes it so attractive.

There's almost always a reason to be in the field at first light (so I tell myself when it's time to get up).
The great blue heron initially had its back turned to be. After a few minutes it gave me a profile, and was jointed by an ibis. Soon after, the sun came up, and the scene was gone.

Out hiking at Brazos Bend State Park, I ran across a beautiful patch of yellow flowers. It was a warm, winter day and the honeybees were out. I had to pull my macro lens out and shoot a few. I love the pollen all over the honeybee. Nature in action.
Large alligator at Brazos Bend State Park in Needville, TX, they are famous for their gators. Can see many missing teeth, scars on his snout, etc. I thought this perspective was interesting. Some sun on the day I was there, Alligators were out on the bank sunning, this one was about 9' tip to tip.
Have you ever just taken a picture and not know what any of it is?? You just simply take it because it is beautiful or meaningful to you....
When we hit the trail in this heavy fog, I decided to pull the bird camera off the tripod, mount my little Olympus micro 4/3 and try to shoot the fog. I really like this little camera, but I find myself cropping my micro 4/3 images to standard 3X2. I guess I need to learn to think micro 4/3.

The Wood Duck aka Carolina Duck is one of the most stunningly pretty of all waterfowl. Males are iridescent chestnut and green, with ornate patterns on nearly every feather. (all about birds)

This was 3/18 at Brazos Bend. Unfortunately, flooding has the Park closed until at least 5/10.

I don't know what kind of butterfly or flower these are, but I know that God must have been proud when He created these!!
Standing on a pier with the bright sun behind me, I noticed that I could see the grebes underwater. Brazos Bend State Park in SE Texas

Last Sunday morning I was pleasantly surprised to come across a pair (I assume) of bald eagles at Brazos Bend State Park. It was early, and I was alone on the trail. What a thrill it was to watch the sun rise on these birds, Later in the morning, they returned and gave several people good looks. 11/2019
