Glass beads on braided strands. Made to match my new crocs and my many shirts in shades of aqua-teal.
the herringbone, a bit disorderly - when I took the pic, it was already some ours old. It's a braid that always draws remarks. Initially, Quarta didn't like it because she found the name disgusting. "stinking herring" she called it until I changed the name to shibbolet braid. Now she likes it.
i took this at a very low moment of my very lovely life.
thanks for inviting me, Photographers of the World group! to go along with your swell guidelines, a bit more about this photo:
i was 28 when i took this of myself in spring 2004. i'd spent the weekend in rosarito, mexico, having gone for a drum & bass (i am a decade-long disciple of this music that's very fast and usually very dark). i'd only skipped one night of sleep, but it felt like 4... unusual for this naturally nocturnal insomniac. we'd suffered many levels of tragedy... from stolen money to a possible sighting of a loss of life... and man, was i ready to go home. i was waiting, in the heat, for a tram at the border, having just spilled the entire contents of my makeup bag on the floor of the station then nearly forgetting it as the tram was taking off. the train from the border through san diego to los angeles, was filled with beer-soaked belchers who were shouting the most inane things. i wanted to wish those walking cliches... and the whole weekend, really... into oblivion.
and then i went about my merry life in hollywood, working in entertainment advertising, organizing my formidable costume closet, and slowly learning to take pictures that are beginning to bring me a true joy i hadn't before known.
i look forward to learning more about the lot of you, your inspirations and your perspectives.

I fear someone is using my photo for less than noble purposes ... so ... I will make it private for awhile! The onions were so beautiful on their own but improved on this heirloom background and ps :>) I love these brightly colored wool braided rugs that my Grandmother made so many years ago and grace the floors or our more modern home.
My $40 hair braid... But I had fun! The girl said it took her a couple months to learn the basics of fancy braids, but she's been doing fancy braids for about 7 years now.
Took advantage of the nice weather to take this piece outside to take some good photos. This has been blogged about over on nuido.blogspot.com
