Braided rivers wander back and forth, filling only a small portion of their gravelly streambeds, even at high water. These rivers carry huge sediment loads—rocks, mud, and glacial flour—eroded by glaciers at the rivers’ headwaters.

All these braids were from a single cut and assembled from my hair. It was great for life in Alaska.

After I was dropped off at my hotel Sunday afternoon in Madison, Tennesee (on a Jon interview in '07), I put on my comfortable clothes and headed out to see if I could shoot some stuff under cloud-cover.

I liked the rope bindings on the flagpole just outside the hotel entrance.

It's hard to focus digicams. This one came out okay, with the rope closest to the lens actually in focus.

Tricky, that.
