A modern work by a living artist. Biographical details about the artist have proven elusive, but Arnold Rice appears to be African-American.
Our Daily Challenge 4-12 February : Braid/Braided.
I have just come across a stash of this, which I must learn to use!
Braids are one of my favorite ways to use up scraps! My fellow Live Piecefully Bee members sent me tons of fabric back, so I decided to make this block and put them to good use!
I created a tutorial that you can find here .
An extreme macro of a very beautiful Spruce twig on a large tree in my front yard. Sometimes..well often times, I am so amazed at all of the details in nature..the incredible braiding and twisting involved in every little off-shoot along the main stem..just blows my mind..and this is but one of thousands and thousands of individual sprigs..
Laetitia is my 13th stranger in my 100 Strangers Project.
The last of my strangers from our first Newtown excursion is the lovely Laetitia. We spotted her crossing the road, and I made a U-turn to follow her and approach her on the other side. She was waiting for a bus to get to Uni, so I was worried about making her late but she reassured me it would be fine. Laetitia studies public health, and while she didn’t describe herself as particularly artistic, she said she did enjoy well-written works and nice photographs. We talked about our similar courses briefly as I walked her over to a shaded area a short distance away from the brightly-lit bus stop. I still have difficulty dealing with glare from glasses, so I had to ask her to remove hers, but I'm glad I did as she has gorgeous eyes. The light being reflected from the street into her eyes and on her face made for a softer light than the open area of the bus stop. However, I regret not moving her slightly to create a more consistent background.
Thank you, Laetitia, for being a part of my project, and I hope you like your picture!
Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers in the 100 Strangers Flickr Group. You can see the rest of my set here. Constructive criticism, as always, is welcome.
I learned to make this fun and easy braid by watching a tutorial by torrinpaige on YouTube.

I love making these braids, but seldom find uses for them! They are braided on a Japanese braiding stand called a Marudai

Beautifull yet deadly, the braided part of this tree has taken over the center part and made it it's host.
Here is just a couple quick snap shots of Lori, she was actually taking a photo of her own in the frame on the left and in the one on the right she was fiddling with a flower to put in her hair.
