As for the strike - it collapsed. BR decisively won. Rail unions have hardly troubled us since. If I sound a little unsympathetic I am merely extending to ASLEF (and occasionally the NUR) the courtesy they showed me when they regularly (and I mean regularly) used me as a hostage in their disputes throughout the 70's. I've never had to cycle to work since 1982!
After German Crisis BR-49 was born. It was heavier than BR-47 because it had two pilots. It was made to reduce number of duties for each pilot. 37mm guns replaced the old ones. Also some internal systems were redesigned. That was a final “pure” version. After the Korean War USSR started producing new mechs, but different modifications of BR-49 were made by other countries.

This loco had a sad fate (see below)
Built by English Electric (Works No.s E3056/ D718) it was delivered to BR as D6764 on 7 November 1962 and allocated to Thornaby shed.
Gaining the number 37064 in July 1974 under TOPS, it was briefly allocated to Stratford (1982) and ran on the occasional passenger service from 1982 to 1984.
From April 1984, it headed back north - being based at Healey Mills, Tinsley and its original home depot of Thornaby.
In March 1987, it was rebuilt as a 37/5 and became 37515.
Under sectorisation in January 1989, it joined the FMTY Pool - Freight Metals Thornaby.
Allocated to what became EWS, it stayed in service through the 1990s and even did a stint in France (from June 1999 to October 2000).
Stored like so many on its return, it was sold in April 2003 to HNRC - Harry Needle Railroad Company who brought it back to operational status (it only had 2,519 TOPS hours on its engine when sold).
Sold on to DRS in February 2005, it was given a major overhaul. By March 2006, it was mainline operational.
On 4 January 2008, it was involved with a collision while on a light engine move in Scotland (from the www.class37.co.uk website: "collision with a lorry at Whitemoss level crossing while working 0Z37 0530 Grangemouth - Inverness").
The damage was major and 6 days later DRS allocated it to their XHHP (deregistered locos) Pool.
It was stripped of usable parts at Barrow Hill by HNRC and sent to TJ Thomson's at Stockton on 20 March 2010.
3 days later, they had scrapped it.

Some while ago I was given a set of slides to look after following a gentleman passing away . These BR blue locos were in there all taken on Agfa slide film. I have no idea of locations and am sharing them believing them to be by Tony Molineux.
Shortly before the closure of Holditch Colliery, Newcastle under Lyme, a pair of BR class 25 Diesel Locomotives cross Lower Milehouse Lane accelerating their train through the manually operated gates towards the centre of Newcastle. At the junction on the western side of Liverpool Road they will perform the first of two 'run round' reversals necessary to gain access to the WCML at Madeley.
