ITV Border's Sandy McCracken arrived at the cottage with cameraman Paul yesterday to film a short piece for the ITV programme "Border Life". The sun shone brightly and the Cruck Cottage looked fantastic following the recent repairs carried out to the thatched roof and having been freshly lime washed by our army of community volunteers.
Once again local residents came along to help us make this another "special" occasion, becoming the audience for the day. Interviews were given by Michael, Willie and Bill Lawson providing an insight into the Cruck Cottages past, present and future - they were excellent.
Our thanks to all those who once again gave their time to help us - it is, as always, greatly appreciated!

Specially selected passengers have taken a trip on the Borders to Edinburgh railway a day ahead of the opening of the new Scottish Borders rail line to the general public.
The owners of a Golden Ticket traveled on three trains leaving Tweedbank, Galashiels and Stow, each carrying 160 passengers.
Others making the trip were nominated by the public or won competitions.
The 30 miles of new track between Tweedbank in the Borders and Edinburgh opens to the public on Sunday.

On 4 February, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao inaugurated the first Integrated Border Post (IBP) at Batugade, Bobonaro District. President Ramos-Horta, Minister of Finance Pires, Minister for Tourism and Industry Alves, the Indonesian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, and UNMIT SRSG Haq and UN Police Commissioner Carrilho attended, amongst others. The facility supports the legitimate cross border movement of people and goods for tourism, commercial and community links. The IBP consists of several border control agencies, including immigration, customs, quarantine, border police, agriculture, foreign affairs and transport. & a lighthouse---El Faro---which is on the Mexican side of the border. The road circles around the Bullring-by-the-Sea. The obelisk in the background, by the tree, was dedicated by President Richard M. Nixon, to celebrate the establishment of "Border Field State Park." The dark fence is made from the decks of old aircraft carrier decks & parts of U.S. Navy battleships, etc.

Edenbridge, Kent, GB
Parish of Sevenoaks It is located on the Kent/Surrey border on the upper floodplain of the River Medway and gives its name to the latter's tributary, the River Eden. Edenbridge has a population of around 8,000.
he old part of the town grew along a section of the otherwise disused Roman road, the London to Lewes Way at the point where it crossed the river. Iron slag from iron smelting in the surrounding area was used in building the road. In the Middle Ages, it became a centre of the Wealden iron industry. There are many mediaeval timber buildings in the town, one of which houses the Eden Valley Museum. Edenbridge has had four mills over the centuries, Haxted Mill and Honour's Mill on the River Eden, Christmas Mill on a tributary of the Eden, and a windmill to the south of the town. All four mill buildings survive, but now converted to other uses. The 13th century church dedicated to St Peter and St Paul contains a set of windows in the east wall by Sir Edward Burne-Jones. William Taillour (1406–83), Lord Mayor Of London in 1468 lived in Edenbridge Walter Galpin Alcock (1861–1947), organist and composer, was born in Edenbridge
My beautiful girl. I just can't believe someone would abandon her at a shelter because she "barked and escaped". We were lucky to have her - someone else has wanted her, but we got to her just in time. And in the entire time that I've had her, she's only escaped three times (always coming back), and barked two times.
This is an image taken on the Taken on the N1/A1 dual carriageway between Dundalk and Newry, right on the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
I intended to focus on the change in the style of hard shoulder between North and South - dashed yellow line in the Republic, continuous white line in the North.
No customs post - I hope it stays this way and Northern Ireland's Remain Vote is respected!
Twister Quilt is done and I must say it went together really well. Nice technique. Now it's deciding borders. For sure some of the green polka dot but maybe it needs one of the prints that's in the pinwheel as final border. Have to sleep on it.

Borders San Francisco
As of January 30, 2010, the company operated 511 Borders superstores in the world, including 508 in the U.S. and three in Puerto Rico.
On February 16, 2011, Borders applied for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and began liquidating 226 of its stores in the United States. Despite an offer from the private-equity firm Najafi Companies, Borders was not able to find a buyer before its July 17 bidding deadline, and therefore began liquidating its remaining 399 retail outlets on July 22, with the last remaining stores closing their doors on Sunday, September 18, 2011.[5] The Chapter 11 case is ultimately being converted to Chapter 7

Borders always look their best end-on. You can't see the gaps.
This year's lack of water coupled with the very poor soil here has kept many plants smaller than usual and a lot of bare soil in between.
It looks good like this though doesn't it.
Couldn't easily be more different to my borders at home that really are over-full from any angle. I assume it's the richer soil.
Took part in the 2nd cross border run from Gretna to Carlisle, it was a very hot one indeed . Thanks to Rob Westgarth for asking me to run for the Carlisle Audi team and also Julie Tiffen who made up our 3 man/woman team.
A great effort from everyone today..
