(At home, I have a copy of the original 1908 survey of the International Border Line, as agreed to between Canada and USA... When I looked for the exact point I was at in the "gate" image (below), I see that there actually WAS/IS a crossing at that location, BEFORE the line was agreed to. Awesome, or what !!!)
Crossing the Czechoslovakian border to Germany in 1988. Maybe not the best composition but it is difficult to compose when lots of guys with guns are standing around and there is not supposed to be any photography. It was an experience with the eastern guards and dogs searching every train compartment. It is amazing to remember how it seemed then that this border would never change and how fast it did change.

Blockage at Vietnam Cambodia border. We had to stop our voyage here until the ships crew took our passports over to the border control to let us into Vietnam. The Mekong was chockers with boats of every ship and size waiting to cross the boarder

I walked it, pulling my suitcase behind me, because I was fed up with hassles from the taxi drivers who swarmed me. Also, I thought it would be fun to walk from one country to another. This was my first indication of how poor Burkina is: Look at the difference in pavement. And look at their rusted sign!
