Even the Ensete here is an annual. The hot growing season here is at most 4 months long, not long enough for the plant to mature and flower. But it looks great as a focus plant in a border!

The Border Patrol Foundation held its 7th Annual Border Patrol Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.
We went across in Northern Idaho, in both directions and up a considerable grade, a swath of trees had been removed to denote the border.
The view out of the back of the train just after it crossed the border from Germany into the Netherlands. The ballast changes colour, the overhead line equipment changes shape, and even the sound of the wheels on the rails changes markedly. Goodbye, Germany, and auf Wiedersehen.

The Border Patrol Foundation held its 7th Annual Border Patrol Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.
The first Working Group Conference Call on border security has been organized on February 21, 2013. The aim of the call was to provide continuity of work and policy ideas that are to be discussed at future International Border Security Forum workshops. There was over a dozen countries represented at the call including: US, Canada, UK, Israel, Poland, Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Finland. Members of international institutions such as: NATO, OSCE, FRONTEX, IOM and the Council of the EU, also attended the call.
More unseen borders forming in Westlake Park, as Seattleites mingle with the 26 (now down to 24 due to summer casualties) androgynous human figures as they mix art into their daily life through a major summer art exhibit entitled “Borders”, by the Icelandic sculptor Steinunn Thórarinsdóttir. Meanwhile, for those that might feel intimidated by the life-sized one’s, at the Nordic Heritage Museum across town in Ballard, there’s also an exhibit by the same artist using their smaller counterparts she used as models for the real thing.

I've been told that this was one of the Borders chain's most lucrative locations, and the only bookstore on Long Island's North Fork. (The truth of these statements may be contested - this Christian bookstore in Riverhead is still open.) Former employees at this Borders and locals are hoping to see another store like Books-A-Million can move into the location. Anything but another bank IMHO!
