Most probably a young Hydnellum peckii, and the 'goo' is most probably aurantiacin or thelephoric acid, which has been used for centuries to dye wool. Later on, the fungus would've developed the sharp structures that give it the 'tooth' part of its name.

Non-political statement - actually the flowers. Pun intended!

One of my favorite flowers! Bleeding hearts! I got this one from my uncle’s sister and I’m so grateful to her for it. In fact, that’s where I got my irises and lilies and other flowers too! Anyway, bleeding hearts are some of my favorite flowers. There’s just something detailed and beautiful about them. And a little sad too. They sort of grow in a pattern that reminds me of teardrops hanging off a vine.

Closed off from love, I didn't need the pain. Once or twice was enough and it was all in vain. Time starts to pass before you know it you're frozen. But something happened for the very first time with you. My heart melted to the ground, found something true

And everyone's looking 'round, thinking I'm going crazy.

But I don't care what they say, I'm in love with you. They try to pull me away but they don't know the truth. My heart's crippled by the vein that I keep on closing. You cut me open, And I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love.

Of late, I have realized my photos have displayed how I felt currently during that situation. Not just the pose, and composition, but the lighting and tones.

In this photo, I think it's pretty easy to see what I'm feeling like. Not just by the song, but by the colors. Sort of depressional.

I always think of my best friends Mom when I see these flowers, because of the story she shared with us kids. If you take the flower apart, you will find pieces to 'one' story of how the Bleeding Heart got its name. The pink petals represent the Princess' gown, and you can see her earrings and slippers as well. Last, there is a dagger, which a Prince used to stab his own heart when he could not win the Princess'. As a result, the Princess declared that Her heart would bleed forever.

I am not much of a "flower" photographer but I find these flowers to be quite unique and beautiful, and always try to find the time to photograph them each year :)

I have always liked the glowing transilluminated look for flowers and leaves. But the timing was always difficult for the sun to be in just the right spot.

I am learning more and more how to bring my own "sun" with me and MAKE the photo rather than just take it.
