He finally got a chance for some suet at the feeder this morning; all the other birds were taking over, but Pygmy Nuthatch waited his turn. I love these small birds.

The pygmy nuthatch is a tiny songbird, about 10 cm long and about 10 grams in weight.

They live in pine forests in western North America; they especially favor mature ponderosa pine forests. They are typically found at lower and middle elevations where ponderosa pine grows, but can sometimes occur up to 10,000 feet. We are at a very low elevation here.

A few more birds from Maquenque Lodge, Costa Rica, 2015.

rare bird..........reported to be only the 2nd sighting of this species in BC as well as the second in Canada -the first several years back in New Westminster, BC....usually N. Asia & NE Europe from Finland to Siberia & south to Japan....

As a youngster one of the first birds I can remember seeing was a Gannet effortlessly overtaking the ferry taking us to Islay in Scotland. Not long after I was on a boat near Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth with them diving into the water all around us for fish and I was hooked.

Over the years I've learnt its official name was Northern Gannet and its scientific name became Morus bassanus, (I still prefer the more evocative local name of Solan Goose and Sula bassana)

I can spend hours at Bempton Cliffs watching them soar back and forth, its probably just as well I don't live closer or I'd be there a lot more than once a year !

The development of my photography skills could probably be tracked through all my old Gannet photos right back to trying to convince the family that the white specs taken with a basic point and shoot film camera at Bass Rock were birds !

Regrettably I couldn't get a perfect match between the wires and the strings, but you get the idea I hope.

Green Heron-'After waiting all day, I finally got you little bugger'

Doris' Serviceberry tree is blooming and I was determined to get a picture of a bird in the rain near one of the blooms. It took quite a while, but a very wet-looking male Goldfinch finally came and posted for me near some blossoms!

We will have to find out what they eat. They are wild birds and get sick if you just give them seeds to eat.

Just returned from a 10 day birding trip to Florida. Visited many different locations, saw SO many "firsts", walked 5-8 miles everyday, met a few great photographers along the way. It will take me weeks to get through the thousands of images!

The nests were SO close together it caused more than a few fights between the different birds.

This embroidery was inspired by a bird on a Chinese embroidery in my possession. Silk thread (Devere Yarns' 06 silk) on silk dupion. Very much a learning piece, using materials I had in hand. I enjoyed stitching it.

Cardinal rouge / Northern Cardinal

I was taking some pictures of the bird action at the feed through a window and noticed this photo appears to have a ghost bird capture! Now you see it, now you don't!

Went over to the Auburn NH USA. side of Lake Massabesic for some sunset photos. If you wait long enough something cool will happen. Don't know what type of bird this is but he was kinda bossy with the loons and then he took over the boat. The clouds just happen to be gorgeous as he took over.

Different colorful birds were seen hanging out at Cenote X’Canche, a waterhole near Ek Balam ruins, Yucatan, Mexico.

Ambiance givrée pour le rouge gorge!

Frost atmosphere for the robin...

This is a striking medium-sized bird with a lot of personality!
