The Behavioral Operations Management Summer Institute for PhD students at the Ross School of Business of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (BOMSI2019). The lead faculty were Ryan Buell (Harvard Business School), Stephen Leider (Ross School of Business, University of Michigan), and Jordan Tong (Wisconsin School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Madison). From the website, "The inaugural Behavioral Operations Management Summer Institute for PhD students will be held June 10-14, 2019, at the University of Michigan, Ross School of Business in partnership with the Center for Value Chain Innovation. The conference is co-sponsored by the business schools at the University of Michigan, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Support for this event is also being provided by Harvard Business School's Technology and Operations Management Unit. The 1-week intensive summer institute is designed to provide PhD students who are interested in behavioral research a solid foundation to conduct behavioral operations management research. Additionally, we hope that the summer institute will encourage collaboration and the creation of a research community among the next generation of researchers. Each day of the institute will include morning and afternoon sessions. Morning sessions will provide a general overview of BOM, review core behavioral economics/psychology topics, and discuss OM applications. Afternoon sessions will be focused more on small groups, practicums (e.g., applying ideas to actual research activity), and roundtables (more informal discussions). There will also be free time to prepare for the next day, have office hours, pair up to work on ideas, and hang out!" Pictures from the sessions taken over the week.

I feel very bored and depressed in this barren cage!

Dr. Mark Fleming has been elected to the Board of Directors for Project Return, a Nashville-area non-profit created in 1979 to “provide services and connect people with resources needed to return successfully to work and community after incarceration.” Dr. Fleming is Vice President of Operations for Corizon Health’s contract to provide comprehensive behavioral health services within the Tennessee Department of Correction.

Along with improving the health and safety of our patients, reducing recidivism is a central component of Corizon Health’s Vision. After serving their sentences, many of our patients reenter their communities with limited support and minimal resources and lack the skills and education needed to gain meaningful employment. With the addition of Dr. Fleming to the Board of Directors, we hope to further ensure the successful reentry of our patients in Tennessee and fulfill the other part of our Vision—to better the communities where we all live and work.

We congratulate Dr. Fleming on his election and thank him for his dedicated service to Corizon Health and to the patients for whom we provide essential care.

Same as dad: sit silently by yourself unless someone interacts with you

Wow. That is wildly inappropriate behavior! Especially in front of a small child. I can't imagine anything more irresponsible!...

The fascinating behavior of a Carolina Mantis in my backyard, from defensive displays to ambush hunting, capturing the delicate balance of nature in action: stevecreek.com/the-carolina-mantis-a-day-of-observing-nat...

R.T. Peterson would have improved of this shot. He encouraged his followers to learn to ID birds by their silhouettes, and often included such illustrations in his birding guides. The posture of this bird is an additional clue... they often assume this position. While other members of the Nuthatch family are possible here (especially in winter), the White-breasted is by far the most to be expected.

Owls are fascinating birds loved by most viewers. I believe that this is because they are readily recognized by non-birders as such. A second endearing feature is the variety of expressions... almost human-like. This bird was recognizable as an individual to me by the manner in which it consistently held its wings forward of its body.

Once the diagnosis has been made, a treatment regime can begin.

Soloxine® (Levothyroxine, Virbac Corp., Fort Worth, TX) is a synthetic thyroxine replacement that is a life long treatment. It usually begins BID (Twice daily). It is probably the most common hypothyroid medication. Once stabilized, the majority of dogs can be maintained on 0.02 mg/kg once daily (Bell, et al., 2005).
