Hey everyone! Well, sometimes nature leans to behavior that may seem odd or even gross to us...and firstly, I certainly hope that this series of shots doesn't bother you or gross you out...that would never be my intention! This is merely a natural occurrence with pelicans when their lower lip beak pouch is inverted...it was my first time observing this behavior and caught this series of shots...I thought it too unique to ignore...pelicans are amazing...and observers of nature must be prepared to see anything!

Director LeeAnne Cornyn made her first visit to OhioMHAS's Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare on Friday, January 12, 2024. Clinical Services Director Jennifer Schwirian showcased key areas, including the recreation area, art spaces, and staff comfort room. The visit culminated with meetings between central office leadership and regional representatives. This marks the beginning of a focused series dedicated to building connections and enhancing well-being in behavioral health settings.

This is the Behavioral Health Center in Greensboro. Basically, it is a mental hospital that treats children through adults with mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, bipolar and depression. However, the majority of its patients are there for substance abuse, including alcohol, street drugs and narcotics. Substance abuse is a major illness worldwide and often times these people are "swept under the rug". Furthermore, Behavioral Health and other institutions like it are majorly lacking funds to treat those with mental illness leaving them suffering alone when in fact there illness is very much treatable.
