Dogs are very territorial. Whenever they are out, they mark their territory by urinating. The scent is what marks it.

Here Sam is showing some of his behaviors that I taught him using positive reinforcement strategies.

The American Kestrel practice a ritual called courtship feeding. Over the last several years I have observed the male kestrel bring food to the female announcing he has food with a “cry, cry, cry.” When the female accepts the food she vocalizes in a “coo, coo.” Shortly thereafter they mate.

The Scintillant Hummingbird (Selasphorus scintilla) has learned to feed through the hole created by the Slaty Flowerpiercer on the side of the flower so it can get to the nectar even if its bill is not long enough to reach it from the open end of the flower.

Is it just me or does this look like some picture of a suicide cult before the second coming?

Secretary Becerra Travels to New Mexico to Highlight Biden-Harris Administration Efforts to Improve Access to Behavioral Health and Care in Rural Latino Communities

Visit to New Mexico is Third Stop on HHS’ National Latino Health Tour

On Thursday, April 4, 2024, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra (pronounced Ha-vee-air Beh-sehr-rah) will visit New Mexico, as a part of HHS’ National Latino Health Tour. In New Mexico, Secretary Becerra will highlight the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to improve access to behavioral health care and health in rural Latino communities.

At 9:30 AM MT, Secretary Becerra will visit the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM where he’ll be joined by Senator Ben Ray Luján (NM), Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández (NM-03), and Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury (NM-01). The group will participate in an open press plática about the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to improve Latino access to health care in rural communities. After the plática, Secretary Becerra will host a press availability beginning at 11:00 AM MT.

At 12:45 PM MT, Secretary Becerra will visit the Gateway Center at Gibson Health Hub in Albuquerque, NM where he’ll be joined by Senator Ben Ray Luján (NM) and Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller. HHS, through the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, provided a total of $4.2 million in Community Project Funds to support the construction and furnishing of the Gateway Medical Sobering Center. Secretary Becerra, Senator Luján, and Mayor Keller will tour the Gateway Center and then participate in a closed press roundtable about the efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration to improve access to behavioral health, including care for substance use. After the roundtable, Secretary Becerra will host a press availability from 1:45-2:00 PM MT.

Investing in Health and Wellbeing of Latino Communities

HHS has engaged in a Department-wide approach to deliver integrated and equitable health care. HHS has undertaken several noteworthy initiatives to improve health services for Latinos. These include lowering the cost of prescription drugs through the Inflation Reduction Act, including the 5.3 million Part D enrollees who identify as Latino, supporting local leaders to help get more Latinos insured, launching the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline with Spanish language text and chat services, expanding meaningful access to language assistance services for individuals with limited English proficiency across HHS divisions, and ensuring greater diversity in clinical trials for Long COVID care. Additionally, HHS has taken action, through the HHS Health Workforce Initiative, to strengthen the health care workforce pipeline, recruitment and retention, and career advancement issues with a strong focus on equity and cultural competency.

SIPI developed its on-campus Restoration Site where students go to identify plants, study wildlife behavior, and conduct long-term ecological studies on March 21st 2015. Volunteers learned how to build and create (1) an outdoor classroom (2) a trail (3) a Hugelkultur garden and (4) a pollination hotel. Event was successful and brought in more than 50 volunteers - students, community members, staff and faculty.

Thank you to our volunteers for their time and hard work and to our field experts who served as crew leaders. Thank you to our student organization, board of regents, and faculty and staff who donated lunch items.
