Based on the famous poems by Alfredo Arteaga: Cantos: "Crossing the border" and "rebirth" translated into english: "The journey"
Xopan, to Tenochtitlan, /how can I ever forget this place/
"Nosotros descendimos hasta
el rio impasable, buscando la senal: una isla
en las montanas, en las nubes
claras de aguilas, la serpiente
depena, el nopal antipoda.
A una isla mixtitlan, a la isla mixtitlan,
dimos el nombre
isla Xochitepec,"
From Aztlan, the word made motion,
tentli, yollotl, yolotia,
to eagle, to snake, to cactus,
each black.
Old man, conquistador,
Bavieca, Tizon and Colada,
father of Coyote, Chanizo,
Sambaigo and Combujo, /towns/
father of Lobo, el Barquino,
of Mulato, father of Mestizo.
"From the darkest corners of Europe's cold black waters
to Tepeyac, Flower of the Mountain,
where sad children shall kneel
before us. In the name of Our Lady
of the Thorns, we shall baptize a
Juan-Diego Oxomoco, a Marina Nightear,

And west, dark

old words made
new.

From the high plateau, from a
gulf town, across desert to one
river, half water, half metal. A mesh of steel and spray, only
threaded by the mad, Railroads
to the MADNESS, HIGHWAYS TO THE
CITIES OF THE MAD, and a boat.
In my dream a beautiful maiden approaches the fence, she offers mezcal,
there is something

drink from the common bottle,
our skins are the same

have attempted to illustrate this poignant bed time story more often than I wish to remember, always failing in the attempt, this is my last effort and it depicts the poet awaking from the dead of the past and the possibility of a new life in the "Land of Plenty"
It is best viewed on black.

DO NOT SMOKE IN BED
It's been a long time, but I still have the scar to prove that messages inside matchbooks are genuine and sincere warnings that should be heeded.
Brothers and sister read a bedtime story togather on the bed in bedroom, kid, child, family, study, education and home work concept

Evie became bored with the childrens books as she/we have read them all a million times. She tends to love the classics.

Soooo this is Fiona's superhero nickname from one of my "famous" bedtime stories. I make them up off the top of my head at the last minute and they are always different, they always have a funny town name, a villian with a sidekick (or as we call it...an evil assissticant), someone calling out for a hero, Fiona being the hero with a different name everytime, she has a different mode of transportation every time (always extremely off the wall and really funny), and a secret weapon that saves the day along with her magic trick that puts everything in the world back to the way it should be (and wards off nightmares). Her magic trick is always the same... She has to wiggle her nose, wiggle her ears, wiggle her butt, wiggle her right foot, wiggle her left foot, do the hokey pokey and turn herself around and then BAM everything is all better. It works every time.
Sometime, I need to record our stories. They're really good. A little unusual, but in a funny way. Her name in the title was from a story set in the village of Rhymetown. I had to rhyme the entire bedtime story off the top of my head. It was fun and had a moral and I even got in the end. That was her favorite one, next to the "say it don't spray it one". Don't ask, you really had to be there to appreciate that one..hehe.

At the end of each year I create a photo calendar of my son which has between one and four photos for each week of the year. With this year end project in mind I try as much as possible to capture our lives and and Sam growing up from every angle. In the image above I wanted to record the nightly ritual of the bedtime story and the smiles it produces.
To ensure the light given off by the bedside lamp was preserved I didn't use flash but instead used a very shallow depth of field and a high ISO.
"I've become impossible holding on to when, everything seemed to matter more.
The two of us,
All used and beaten up.
Watching fate as it flow down the path we
Have chosen."

Eva and Neo.
Best friends sharing common ground. Broken hearts searching for some comfort and forgetting all the bruises.
She has not felt safe since...since when exactly? When she had been guarded by a professional. That is when she felt safe. But she had not handled herself professional at all. Her heart went all fluttery, uncertain and excited. She had fallen in Love with a man who was freedom inpersonated. Telling Neo about this felt good. Feeling comforted felt desperately appropriate.

Sometimes taking pictures is just playing to transform your daughter into her favorite fairy tales characters.

Today is the last day that I'm using words
They've gone out, lost their meaning
Don't function anymore
Let's, let's, let's get unconscious honey
Let's get unconscious honey
Today is the last day that I'm using words
They've gone out, lost their meaning
Don't function anymore
Traveling, leaving logic and reason
Traveling, to the arms of unconsciousness
Traveling, leaving logic and reason
Traveling, to the arms of unconsciousness
Chorus:
Let's get unconscious honey
Let's get unconscious
Let's get unconscious honey
Let's get unconscious
Words are useless, especically sentences
They don't stand for anything
How could they explain how I feel
Traveling, traveling, I'm traveling
Traveling, traveling, leaving logic and reason
Traveling, traveling, I'm gonna relax
Traveling, traveling, in the arms of unconsciousness
(chorus)
And inside we're all still wet
Longing and yearning
How can I explain how I feel?
(chorus)
Traveling, traveling (repeat twice)
Traveling, traveling, in the arms of unconsciousness
And all that you've ever learned
Try to forget
I'll never explain again

British postcard in the Film Shots series by Film Weekly. Edward Everett Horton, Baby LeRoy and Maurice Chevalier in A Bedtime Story (Norman Taurog, 1933). Photo: Paramount.
It seemed like American actor Edward Everett Horton (1886-1970) appeared in just about every Hollywood comedy made in the 1930s. He was always the perfect counterpart to the great gentlemen and protagonists of the films. Horton specialised in the fretful, woebegone 'Nervous Nellie' types.
Maurice Chevalier (1888-1972) was a French actor, singer and entertainer. His trademark was a casual straw hat, which he always wore on stage with a cane and a tuxedo.

The Newry Highwayman
In Newry Town I was bred and born
In Steven's Green now I'll die in scorn.
I served my time to the saddling trade
but I turned out to be, I turned out to be a roving blade.
At seventeen I took a wife
I loved her dearly as I love life
And for to keep both fine and gay
I took to robbing, I took to robbing on the King's highway.
I never robbed any poor man yet
Nor any tradesman has cause to fret
I rob the lords and their ladies bright
I take their jewels, I take their jewels to my heart's delight.
To Covent Garden I make my way
With my dear wife for to see the play
Lord Fielding's corps they did me pursue
And I was taken, I was taken by that cursed crew.
My father cried, "Oh, my darling son"
My wife she wept and said, "I'm undone"
My mother tore her white locks and cried,
"'Twas in the cradle, 'twas in the cradle that he should have died."
And when I'm dead and in my grave
A flashy funeral pray let me have
With six bold highwaymen to carry me
Give them good broadswords, good broadswords and liberty.
Six pretty maidens to bear my pall
Give them white ribbons and garlands all
For when I'm dead, aye they'll speak the truth
He was a wild and a wicked youth.
