Sdraiati, immobili, fissiamo il soffitto che non ha cielo in quella stanza, è buio come l'anima, l'unico chiarore arriva da quelle lenzuola che la luce sbianca e trasforma il mio talamo in una deposizione caravaggesca

I tried something new today. When I was editing this photo I was a bit disappointed because the light wasn't right for the mood I wanted to create. But it was really cold when I was shooting this and my brother's dog was impatient so I was glad I got a few good pics. I had a few of the stars sticked on that tree behind me and I looked at the picture in Photoshop and said to myself why not to draw a few more stars to the picture. So I grabbed my tablet and draw them there. I think it looks kinda cool to me. It's something new I haven't used in my photographs never before.

Well, I envisioned finishing this on a high production note, but that's not what today is all about. It's about this. Merry Christmas everyone!
My mother arrived from South Africa today and will be staying with us for 3 glorious months over summer. She is a joy to have around and the little girl of the house is beside herself with excitement to have her nanny home again.
This is them at bedtime...happy summer days ahead!

my Monday Bench for this week is dedicated to childhood.. to imagination, to fantasy, to fairy tales and prince charming dreams.. to the time in your life when you're smaller than the book your mum's reading you from, but your dreams are bigger than they'll ever be later!
have a lovely Monday everyone and never forget the child within you! :)

I LOVE hearing my sons read.. It astonishes me every time. I don't know, it's just something about hearing their young minds verbalize what's on a page with perfect articulation and understanding (I know because I will stop them mid sentence sometimes and quiz them on what they've just read) ..
My little man is reading CONSTANTLY!! So much so that he's already gotten 25 AR points in his reading system at school.. AND HE'S IN KINDERGARTEN!!! Put this in perspective: He gets a book from the library at school.. Reads it at home (in a night) and then takes a 5 question test on it in the library the next morning. Each question is worth .1.. YES, each exam if answered perfectly is only worth .5 points.. So you guessed it.. He's read 50 books already and it's only the FIRST SEMESTER!! There's 4th graders that don't have 25 points yet.
Oh, did I mention he's reading 3rd grade level books and is getting 2 books a night? Well he is.. Little man is a BEAST!!!
Reading is such a huge part of who I am because most of what I do is self taught. Whether it be my way of living (programming) or photography.. I never finished school so if I wanted to learn something, I had to rely on myself.
I decided I wanted to be a programmer, so I picked up a book and started reading. I think what I got from college was how to teach myself. I figured out how I learn. I guess that was invaluable considering I didn't stick around to finish.

Akif and mum lay in bed while i spy on them with Zaim's 135 f/2L! Seeing them like this just reminds me of my days in kindergarten when mum read out bedtime stories to me after i came back from school, took shower and had lunch. I would just fall asleep after like 2 minutes!
P.S - This lens is JUST FRIGGIN awesome! :D
As we all know, reading aloud is designed to put us to sleep. The parents who were read to as children, read aloud to their own children. We all know what the bedtime story is for. Even if it isn't bedtime.

Al, Nuk and Mim are ready for their bedtime story. Mim wants a good clean story, Al wants something about social justice and Nuk just wants to tell us all about how he's worried that the Stock Market might crash on Sunday when there was no one to help it up.
This charming original vintage litho from 1931 by children's illustrator Viola Ruth Lowe is as fresh as a Daisy; the colors are as crisp as day it was printed back 80 years ago.
It measures 7.5 x 9.5" and is printed on heavy paper and it's printed on the back as well, but the paper is nice and thick and nothing shows through.

i tucked sequoia into bed and read some of his favorite Leslie Patricelli board books. apparently that wasn't enough for him, by the time we were getting into our own bed, he showed up in our bedroom carrying two books, a handful of toys, and demanded an encore reading of Yummy Yucky and Quiet Loud.
in most of these photos he's screaming "LOUD!" at the top of his lungs, a practice he adopted earlier in the evening and mischievously applied to the book which is describing various edible and inedible foods as "yucky" or "yummy." Spaghetti? LOUD! Cookies? LOUD! etc.

Although Little Pip and Little Henry take part in many dangerous adventures, it is to remember that they are still very young. So if they’re not doing important research (Henry) or chasing their own tail and hiding chocolate in their secret stash (Little Pip) they like nothing more than hopping into their dream box and listening to wise Mr Shaun (me) reading them a lovely bedtime story.
Last week it was “Watersheep Down” (a slight modification on the classic) This week, it’s “The Wind in the Willows”, we do like Mr Badger, but I think Mr Toad finds less approval among us and if met would probably be thwacked and brought to his senses :-)

I think I'll read The Night Before Christmas, then I'll snuggle up in my cozy PJ's and go to beddy by. I have over 500+ views on this but no comments yet. Please offer your suggestions. Does it need improvement or is it well taken? THANK YOU :)

.. so about being mad (in a good way), my dear friend Ivy and I played a game this week, we let our minds get creative!
We set a theme for our photos (which was, as you may have realized by now, Alice in Wonderland) and decided to make a collage from what came out of the photo shootings:) So there you go!
Our "Alice in Wonderland" diptych, where you have Ivy's photo on the left and mine on the right, is the first from what I hope it'll be a beautiful collaboration!
Thanks, Ivy, for playing along!
