“My mother was a famous stage actress. She went to Germany to make a silent movie and married the commander of a luxury liner. I was American at home and German on the street. Then she ended up in a concentration camp. I also had it a little rough during the war. I guess I’ve learned not to hold anything against anyone, because they may have had experiences shaped by factors beyond their control.”

I love my 50mm because I can never get focus like this on my 18-55mm. I thought about asking for a new lens for Christmas, but I'd fallen out of love with photography, so as useful as it would be, I didn't feel it was worth the money.
I started to fall out of love with photography after my little silver camera broke, just after my 365 finished. It held out until the end! & then something went wrong with the circuits & it wouldn't take photos anymore. Then, as I was taking a break for photos, & on holiday etc, it took me a while to go & send it to be fixed, & then the camera people didn't send it me back until sometime October, & it turned out they'd broken my memory card in the process. They said they'd send me another one, but didn't get around to that until December. & then I didn't unpack the memory card from my uni bags until a few days ago. BUT, now that I have my little camera back I've taken so many more photos. As much as I love RUby (my DSLR) I don't want to take her everywhere for dinners, or hanging out places, or just going out shopping, which meant I lost so many photo opportunities.
Anyhow, this is my brother on Boxing Day when we went out to the Mere. It was frozen over & the poor birdies were famished! My brother saw this photo & said he liked himself much better from behind, which made me laugh, but also feel sorry in case he meant it.
So, I'm back at uni tonight, after having been abandoned here by my family. It's not so bad. My room looks absolutely lovely, & I only shed a few tears when my family got in the car & drove off (mostly because Rob turned up with his parents at this point, & I didn't want them to see me crying).
I have a medieval translation test tomorrow, & I have not revised one tiny bit. I've been too busy writing essays, being ill, & celebrating the holidays with my family. Also, I hate translations.
Once again, people in my corridor have decided that standing right outside my door and trading inane comments about the holidays (& oh no they're talking about hickeys now) is the perfect place to be.
I'm going to go revise now. Failing that, I'll either be writing, or finishing decorating my room!
Please don't post any comments with photos in them, otherwise it will be deleted and contact will be blocked. Thank you.

Because of the association with the Second World War, the station at Quorn & Woodhouse has been restored, with some licence, to a 1940s theme and has been repainted into the LNER brown and stone colour scheme which it would have carried at that time.
I miss DELENA, thats what a lot of people are saying. Yes.. I miss seeying them in public.. BUT. There's a BUT.. They are still friends! Demi said so; and I don't understand why she'd lie about that. :)
GO DELENA!
Because I could not find a nice leatherman holster for my new wave like the one I had for my old leatherman I made one my self.
It is made from thick leather with strong rivets. Fits perfect for leatherman wave new.
Here's another oldie... almost 20 years old now, that I uncovered while going through some stuff - Transmetal 2 Black Arachnia.
The 90's were a very strange time for the Transformers franchise, and the Beast series was your G1 I kind of feel bad for you because while you might have had the better show than us in the 80's, the toys your had were certainly bizarre.
For those not in the know, Black Arachnia was a character from the Beast Wars series, first starting as a Predacon, and eventually becoming a Maximal due to I believe due to her hots for Silverbolt, the flying Wolf/Eagle hybrid, but discovering she was originally a Maximal to begin with before being corrupted by the Megatron.
The Transmetal 2 line was the third series of toys for the Beast Wars era, before the REALLY strange toys of Beast Machines, with Black Arachnia upgrading her original body to a Transmetal when she stole the technology from Megatron.
The toy itself became somewhat infamous, first for being one of the few Transformer figures with a "voluptuous female figure", and for the first batch, parents that bitched because the blue thing on her chest was removable (later batches had this blue part glued on).
Enough about history - how does the toy fare?
Well in spider mode it's not bad. Sure she looks super tacky in pink chromed plastic, but that was the character on the show.. I don't think I've ever seen any toy line since use this much chrome on their figures. Also, considering the age of this figure and the horror stories of the chrome flaking off the figure, mine seems to be in pretty good shape.
In robot mode, it's kind of a disaster. Black Arachnia resembles her on screen counterpart, but one of the biggest differences is the size of her comical looking shoulder pads... they were nowhere as giant in the show.
Her face sculpt is... OK, I guess. I mean, it's definitely more on point than her first toy, which was a repaint of the Tarantulas, the other spider character.
The Beast era brought about the wide spread use of ball joints on figures, so the articulation was certainly leaps and bound above what I grew up with. The problem is that due to the loose hip joints, this figure can't really stand on it's own, and the giant backpack she has consisting of her spider shell and legs just bogs her down.
Her weapon consists of what basically is her web shooter, which fits with the character and is generally acceptable. Of course, this is counteracted by a completely useless and invasive gimmick, being her spin kick ability.
So, overall a rather finicky toy that is reminder of the strange design choices of the Beast era, though having said that if I could track down one of those Botcon 2001 Arcee figures for a good price I wouldn't mind having it.
Black Arachnia would continue to get shafted in the toy representation area until the Animated series, when she finally got a toy that was a good representation of her show self, which was itself later repainted as the Beast era character as part of the Japanese only Legends line.

Kinetic: Relating to, caused by, or producing motion.
These are called “Kinetic” photographs because there is motion, energy, and movement involved, specifically my and the camera’s movements.
Most of these are shot outdoors where I have the room to literally spin and throw my little camera several feet up into the air, with some throws going as high as 15 feet or more!
None of these are Photoshopped, layered, or a composite photo...what you see occurs in one shot, one take.
Aren’t I afraid that I will drop and break my camera? For regular followers of my photostream and this series you will know that I have already done so. This little camera has been dropped many times, and broken once when dropped on concrete outside. It still functions...not so well for regular photographs, but superbly for more kinetic work.

Albeit supremely risky this is one of my favorite ways to produce abstract photographs.

Just Because... it's pouring again and I needed a daily shot. I'd taken some shots earlier practising my dof on wood-grain textures but they didn't have the effect I was looking for. While wandering around the glinting light from my crystal champagne flutes caught my eye. I stood one on my blue bench and took the shot from above looking into the glass. I tried a few different focus points but liked this one where the main focus is on the star-like pattern. I hadn't really tried anything like this before, but I think it turned out ok :)
Windows could not start because I had a window for the video card driver open while installing the latest video card driver for laptop. After the driver installation completed, Windows asked me to reboot.
The reboot sent me to this beautiful page where Windows wanted me to repair the file by "using the original Setup CD-ROM".
I sent a message to twitter about the problem and, my buddy, Jason replied with an easier fix.
His suggestion of pressing F8 at boot helped! Luckily the Last Known Good option placed me back into Windows where I could re-install the video card drives (and this time without additional driver windows open).
Lesson: When installing software, make sure your driver window is closed. =/
Decided to go out Saturday because the weather was supposed to be cooler, and cloudy. Well it was cooler 85f. But zero clouds. I swear I'm going to move to a state that has clouds.
Got to my first spot, and found out they have now fenced the entrance path to the spot. A GIANT field with a path leading to my spot is not completely fenced. forcing me to walk about an mile out of my way to get to the spot. Yeah, I could have easily jumped the fence, walked through and jumped the next fence. There was so much traffic in the area I could just walk around. I need the exercise anyway.
The long walk to my spot took me pretty close to one of my favorite bridge spots, so I decided to hike up a bit and see what was new. A few new pieces and a few old favorites that were still there, un-touched. Those are in today's upload as well.
Got to my spot finally. This spot has a homeless "issue" but I've had nothing but pleasant interactions with anyone who's approached me. Mostly I think they are just curious what I'm doing out there for 5-6 hours standing around in one spot. As soon as I say "the trains.." they always go "oh, cool." So every time I go there I always take inventory of all of the people who are out there so I know where to keep an eye out. Got there at like 10:15AM and I see a guy coming out from under a tree about 200' away. Moving slow, and carrying a box. Moving the box from one place to another, then another box, etc. I'm not worried about this person.
About an hour into my session, I see a guy walking along in the wash below.. Looks about 60-65, with no shirt, and is about as tan as you can get. This guy has obviously been in the desert sun for a while. After a couple of minutes he gets to me, throws out his hand and introduces himself as "Jeff". Asks how I'm doing and what I'm doing out there. I said "the trains" and he nods. Says he's headed up to the gas station down the tracks and up the road, and asks if I want him to bring me something to drink. "nah, I'm good", "OK, see ya'" Oh, forgot to mention, Jeff had a fixed blade knife about 12" long strapped to the front of his belt. I also carry a knife when I go out, just in-case so I understood his carrying of a knife and seeing it didn't faze me.
Spent about 4 hours at that spot, and hit up another spot on the way home and flicked some other amazing pieces.
Was a great day out, and I had fun. Isn't that what it's all about!!? I even managed to flick some pieces from some of my favorite writes I haven't seen before!
Also witnessed a procession of like 100 Honda Groms and other motorcycles rolling by: youtu.be/H4uLI_EupHU
Thanks to all of the writers and fellow benchers. Stay safe out there. Look both ways before crossing!!
