Because much Vienna's historic center sees little traffic, it is possible in many places to feel like you are walking back to the past. This shot of an old-fashioned horse and buggy was taken in Strauchgasse, a side street off Herrengasse near the Hofburg palace.

"Because" is a song recorded by English rock band The Dave Clark Five from their third studio album American Tour (1964). The song was produced by Adrian Clark, the song was originally the B-side to "Can't You See That She's Mine" in the UK.
"Because" was released as a single in the United States and reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also charted at number three in both Canada and New Zealand. Julian Lennon released a version of the song which peaked at number 40 on the UK Singles Chart in 1985.
Because I enlarged my veggie garden I also had to create more flower beds around the garden fence.
This is the result in one area. I need to bring home a couple more large flat stones from the creek near our cabin.
My son-in-law pulled the large stones from Salt Creek in Hocking Co. They are only about 2 to three inches thick.

McDonald's President and Chief of Operations Don Thompson told the Chicago Tribune last week that a similar campaign ad to the pro-gay ad now airing in France would never air in the United States because he is a good Christian.
It makes me so angry to hear anyone, but especially a black man, use Christianity as his justification for bigotry, knowing that many Christian groups across the country used their Christianity and the bible to support and justify their racist and bigoted treatment of blacks.
I wonder if he would agree with the white Christians who think blacks are cursed and therefore not worthy of equal treatment. I definitely don't agree with that, but many Christians believe it and the Mormon Church didn't even allow blacks to hold an office in their church until the 1970s because of it.
The Bible says God put a curse on Cain for killing his brother and I was taught in my Christian School - a Free Will Baptist Christian School- that this mark was that God made his skin black, so that all could see that he was cursed and to stay away from him. They also taught me that Cain settled in the area that is now the continent of Africa and they believe that all blacks are descended from him, therefore cursed with black skin. I wonder how it would make Mr. Thompson feel to hear those Christians say "We're good Christians so we believe that the Bible tells us that all blacks are cursed, so we won't allow them equal rights or treatment here in the U.S. because it's against our cultural heritage."
He's a FUCKING BIGOT who only said what he did as a nod to his main patrons here in the US- ignorant, fat, right-wing Christians. He agreed to run the pro-gay ad in France, because he knew it was good for the bottom line. Over here, he is afraid that not siding with the Christian bigots will hurt his bottom line, so he's discriminating against gays because he thinks it's good business. Talk about hypocrisy! Fuck him and his company! I'll never eat there again!

Because Lightroom has made merging photos into panoramic images so easy, I tried a few last year. Because they were from hand-held shots, a good bit of cropping of the merged images was necessary, and the difference in perspectives was fairly obvious in one merged image. Overall, though, the results were encouraging, so I decided to make a more serious effort, using not only the tripod, but also carefully leveling the base and using a nodal rail to avoid parallax error. The image above is the first of the more serious efforts, using four images snapped in the warmth of our house. Three images no doubt would have been sufficient, as I overlapped the images more than necessary.

Because the world doesn't end in B&W, unfocused, bokehful shots done with strange, manual lenses :) Nor the other way round, of course.

One of my favorites. I had to shoot in portrait mode and still was unable to capture the entire cloud formation with the 50mm lens that I was using because of the limited range. I would have preferred something wider, such as a 35mm, 28mm, 24mm or even a 20mm lens. At any rate, to see it was phenomenal!
Because sculpting corals from polymer clay is sooooo muc FUN!
Love working the organic shapes and with so much colors :)
Because this always ends up happening at some point if you played the game....

I mentioned that Edward is the most precious Blythe in my collection right? I love my girls cause well, they are girls which means dresses over dresses, but Edward is perfect even if his wardrobe lacks and I shall not put him in dresses.

so, my smart resourceful friends, would you share your secrets with me and direct me towards the easiest, best way to make a photo calendar? do i have to have t. design it and get it printed locally (which seems labor intensive (for t., that is... ahem.))?
or is there a online way-blurb? lulu? i don't want a flip-over, i'd prefer the classier look of a page-a-month type thing.
yes, i'm being lazy. yes, i know i need to have t. design it and have it printed on good card stock. yes, i could, should just look around flickr and order my family all of the wonderful photo calendars that you, my friends, produce with love and care and great planning and expense every year.
but this year, well. i just thought i'd give it a try.
also. yes. this is tonight, not last night. the same sort of absurdities occur pretty much regularly around here.
at least (betsy!) she's fully clothed tonight.

Because Vitruvius is probably a Jedi on top of being a wizard. Went with a WIld West theme for him because of his section on the submarine, I'm really proud of that wagon wheel.
A friend of mine took these pictures for me last week at the EEK! Pop Culture Fest in St. Albert, AB. It was a fun show! I decided I should probably upload these here too because it's been like three years since I posted anything on Flickr.
Because the houses are so close together, Bob has to shoot the snow forward from between the houses and then sideways onto the front lawn area.. which is small. We can't blow onto the neighbour's front lawn as he's in the same boat.
Even though the snow wasn't terribly deep, it soon gets high on the lawn. Thank goodness the new snowblower throws higher and farther to avoid a big mound beside the driveway.

Hidegen (hi-de-gen) was a labor of love ... and hostility ... which for several months was unlikely to be completed. I initially had only the blue concrete mixer pieces, wanting to spin off of franzhe's Space Police Piecemaker design, and a big Gatling gun I built, which had no home except its temporary one under the wing of a Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship.
Because of the concrete mixer pieces' color, Hidegen (formerly named ARV for Assault & Rescue Vehicle) was bound to be part of the blue & yellow ADU theme.
Eventually I decided the ship would also have a rear deck, and hoped I could make the intakes-to-exhausts wrap upward around and over the crew area. Due to more than a few limitations, I had to use thin engine piping in this middle area, but a plus outcome here was that I could then route hoses to powering the lower vertical lift turbofans.
In the end things worked out well with few drawbacks. While hard to find a top hold, Hidegen is swooshable when held from the bottom. The cockpit and interior spaces turned out to be tiny as always, but a minifig pilot can be seated and slid forward. And lastly due to gravity, the front intakes bend downward, outward, and then inward. I'm not sure of franzhe's mounting secrets, but regardless my attachment points were limited by the need for the Gatling weapon to be housed and able to rotate up, out, & below ... a key goal was underside full gun rotation (not pictured).
Like other ADU vehicles, Hidegen burns a whole lot of jet fuel to make up for human technology shortcomings in keeping up with threatening UFOs.
On its name, I wanted to get away from its initial ARV acronym, so the notion of a UFO being assaulted with a huge gun and grappled at high altitude, followed by human victims being safely rescued after such a terrifying operation, led to Hell & Heaven thinking. I tried some Hell & Heaven Latin efforts, but all along the Chumbawamba song Heaven Hell was on my mind. This track was inspired by a Chumbawamba and Ex song named Hidegen. Hidegen simply means coldly in Hungarian.
The photos within photos here touch on the frustratingly slow progress in getting this model done. :-)
