Lt. Col. Perry E. Jones assumed command of the Sandston-based 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment, 91st Troop Command, from Lt. Col. Neal J. Edmonds in a traditional change of command ceremony held June 10 at the Virginia National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility in Sandston. Col. Walt Mercer, commander of 91st Troop Command, presided over the exchange of unit colors between the outgoing and incoming commanders. Edmonds commanded the battalion for more than two years, including the battalion's deployment to Iraq as Task Force Punisher from April to December 2011. Under the command of Edmonds, the aviation battalion completed three separate self-deployments of 10 aircraft each to three different locations in Iraq, conducted more than 16,000 combat flight hours, flew more than 150 medical evacuation missions, and redeployed 42 aircraft and 520 Soldiers. In spring season Mt. Everest Base Camp becomes like a makeshift colorful market of climbers and their associates. Base camp is based on top of active Khumbu Glacier.
A research paper published in the Nature in 2023 suggests that glaciers may melt even faster than expected, potentially contributing to sea-level rise at a quicker rate than previously thought. Another study, published in Nature Climate Change in 2020, analyzed more than 250,000 satellite images, revealing a rapid growth of glacial lakes around the world over the last three decades, indicating the impact of increased meltwater draining from melting glaciers.
Nepal's government has considered moving the Everest Base Camp as the glacier on which it currently sits is thinning. But they've received pushback from many Sherpas who work there, according to a BBC report.

DC based rapper Jefe (formerly known as Shy Glizzy) joined Birmingham rising rap elitist Jabo to put on a killer concert last weekend at the Merienda Lounge. The concert was a joint endeavor by hit concert promoters EB Productions and the Merienda Lounge.
Jabo debuted his latest single, “Know How” which features HitMaker D-Aye. The latest smash hit single from Birmingham’s hottest homegrown rapper is scheduled for release later this month and will be available on all online music platforms i.e. iTunes, Spotify, Tidal, and Google Play.
Jefe performed a number of his classic singles including the widely popular, “So Awesome.” The artist who has seen multiple singles on the Billboard charts, announced recently that he would be abandoning his former stage name and using his new moniker, Jefe a means to re-invent himself.
Tonight, EB Productions x Merienda Lounge will feature DJ Luke Nasty x Love & Hip Hop’s Star Rasheeda (Atl’s Queen of Crunk) at Merienda located at 420 Richard Arrington Jr Blvd S. Opening act is 10$tackz.
