Hartebeest is herbivore whose diet is based almost entirely on grass, eat eats only by day. . Despite clumsy appearance, hartebeest is actually one of the fastest antelopes. It can reach the speed of 43 miles per hour when it needs to escape from the predators.

Una de las pocas imágenes que hice en vertical en mi estadía en la base, una maravilla de lugar, geoformas por todos los rincones con origenes diferentes...

The four DL Alcos that have just dropped their train in Pocono and Cresco are closing in on Scranton with their return train. The set is crossing Roaring Brook River viewed from Davis trail, a neat way to finish the day.

Based on some feedback and my warped sense of mind, here is my version of my Oculus capture taken on the coast of Oregon, and combining it with one of my captures there at Crater Lake (technically all happened in Oregon, therefore it stays in Oregon ..)

Took the image posted below and converted to B&W, then applied a small amount of warming tint to simulate the full moon light spilling over the scene, and then took the night sky from Crater Lake and made that into the sky through the rock openings.

Thoughts ... if someone lives out there, this could be a fun capture to try for real, but need some moonlight, stars, and low tide!!!! all to happen at the same time ... with clear skies.

US Air Force crew out of Shaw Air Force Base brings a short train to the interchange with CSX in Sumter, South Carolina back in 2012. I had been trying to get a shot of this train for six years and I finally got some good information on when it would be running next. I was lucky. This was the only time I was able to shoot it. At the time, they got jet fuel from CSX but later stopped running the trains. Recently they hae sold off the GE center cabs and rumors are they will be pulling up the track soon.

I just love my vista’s to be moody with a bit of edge and the bonus of random light highlighting one of the tops, unfortunately this is as good as it got on Tuesday. I didn’t bother to get my Canon out of the backpack as I was iffy on it’s worth and took the photo with my Fujifilm XT30 16-80mm utility lens. This is a super little combo to be hanging on my shoulder in my old crumpler quick escape pouch. The xt30 is small and has got the best aps-c sensor Fujifilm produce at the moment and this 16-80mm is a very versatile lens, giving an equivalent 24-120mm focal range. It’s sharp enough for this sensor and has a great stabilisation. I always like a camera to be handy when I’m in the hills to catch the little moments of drama, regardless of it being a photography day where I would have a bit more camera umph in my rugsack, or a mountain day where I would only carry the small Fujifilm. The photo was taken maxed out at 80mm to catch a rare sight of the high tops. It’s centred on Base Brown flanked by a snow dusted Great End and the Gables either side.

This is an old WWII Air Force training base located in Picton ON Canada. Little had changed except for a few buildings that collapsed and tin roofs going on the others. It has been home to a number of small businesses.

It is now known as base 31 (Base31.ca) and is undergoing a major transformation with a museum, eateries, entertainment venues and housing projects.
