This current display is honoring seven Arkansas World War II Army Airfields plus the Little Rock Air Force Base.
During World War II, the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) established numerous airfields in Arkansas for training pilots and aircrews of USAAF fighters and bombers.
Most of these airfields were under the command of Third Air Force or the Army Air Forces Training Command (AAFTC) (A predecessor of the current-day United States Air Force Air Education and Training Command). However the other USAAF support commands (Air Technical Service Command (ATSC); Air Transport Command (ATC) or Troop Carrier Command) commanded a significant number of airfields in a support roles.
It is still possible to find remnants of these wartime airfields. Many were converted into municipal airports, some were returned to agriculture and several were retained as United States Air Force installations and were front-line bases during the Cold War. Hundreds of the temporary buildings that were used survive today, and are being used for other purposes.
Items are on loan to us from the Wings of Honor Museum in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas visit www.wingsofhonor.org
Also in this display we feature a brief history of Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas visit jaxmilitarymuseum.org

this puzzled me today--why do the shadows appear to be coloured? It is the base of an old sewing machine that we made into a small table for our kitchen.
JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON - Soldiers of the 56th Engineer Company (Vertical), 6th Engineer Battalion, hone their skills during tactical convoy operations training Aug. 23 on Bulldog Trail, JBER-Richardson. As vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED), complex ambushes employing improvised explosive devices (IED), rocket-propelled grenades (RPG), and small arms continually threaten military convoys in Middle-Eastern theaters of operations, commanders at all echelons must ensure their units are trained in the most effective tactics, techniques, and procedures to counter these threats and mitigate risks to U.S. forces during tactical convoys.
