BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train. San Francisco Bay Area
I found myself on a rare empty BART train. Usually, BART is crowded at all hours, but this train was an extra train added to serve the crowds from the Raiders game at the Oakland Coliseum. The crowds were still at the game.
Ancient design for this car dating back to the 80s. The technology was state of the art when the system opened in the early 70s. Computerized trains drove themselves and it was a glimpse of the future for subways. The train operator is there to simply open and close the train doors with a push of a button.
The trains travel underground and also 5 stories in the air on aerial tracks at 70 miles per hour. You feel like you are flying over rooftops like Superman.
Now, the technology is falling apart and the system is decaying. New trains with modern technology will arrive in the next several years.
In the past few years, they got rid of the stained carpeting and fabric seats. Who in their right mind would put carpet on trains and fabric on seats? The seats and carpets were stained with food and dirt for over 40 years.
New vinyl seats and rubber flooring are much easier to keep clean.
I found this old Bart model I started but never finished. I thought I'd render him out and share...more renders on my blog :)
