My avatar in my (now defunct) gallery in the virtual world Second Life years ago. The illustrations (acrylics and iPad) were by me and the bar code still works taking you to another of my paintings (thanks for the warning). The picture on the right is also a bar code but the original link seems to have been broken.

"That's a fuckin barry song like!" "You'll get wheeled in front of a bus ya cunt." Banter was edgy and bitter. The regulars acted like siblings who've grown sick of one another a long time ago. I found the pub itself to be unexpectedly pretty. Faded, but sure of itself, self-contained like a story. Towards the end of the night, a man who was alone at the bar, deliberately poured his pint onto his lap. When he'd gone, we speculated why. A Whiter Shade of Pale played on the jukebox. "We skipped the light fandango - Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor - I was feeling kinda seasick - But the crowd called out for more - ...She said, `There is no reason - And the truth is plain to see.' " (Jonny)
The view from the window is entirely filled with the off-white of Chancelot Mill, and as the buses go past can only see the top decks, lit up and steamed up in the rain. All night the landlady goes to the jukebox to put on Annie Lennox songs, which becomes quickly tiresome. I sit with my back to the bar, so I just hear a sudden dripping, as the man sitting at the bar apparently pours his entire pint into his lap. I don't turn around. Outside I shelter under a black canvas awning, and look up to see the light showing through miniscule holes, like tiny distant stars. And coming back in, I suggest that I've never seen such heavy rain in Edinburgh. But with hindsight, I was being over-dramatic. (Cai)
A hidden gem, rough diamond like! The interior is a conceptual mix of 60’s/70’s/80’s empire building, albeit on a small scale. The era’s clash with all the joy of exuberance. You can almost forgive the interior colour, let’s call it salmon, for being forward thinking. The jukebox is modern though offering up thousands of tunes and plays constantly-some top tunes being played from the aforementioned eras by the way. The clientele all seem to be edgy and downtrodden. Their dialogue is salty and brash. Interestingly the bar lady could be my well groomed auntie, hapless in her circumstance. The view from the window is onto one of Leith’s famous landmarks, the Chancelot flour mill. Cai drools at its beauty and magnificence. The evening concludes with a guy at the bar pouring a whole pint of ale into his lap. Would I go back again............hell yeah! (Ian)
This is a shot from this morning. Nothing special - just wanted to practice shots with the sun as a star. Probably needed a grad filter on this

The pool and bar were gorgeous but I was unfortunately just passing through.

I realized yesterday that I can mix my favorite drink at most bars. At home I mix fruit juices 50/50 with sparkling water, and bars have soda water on tap - and juice. The bartender called it a "grapefruit spritzer" - I like the sound of that.
...the same creeper technique at some place called Brinks Lounge on East Washington. The reflections are great and would be even better if I had brought my regular 18-250 lense.

Nancy and I enjoy a drink at the bar in Teller's Restaurant. More an illustration than a photograph.

Many different bars to enjoy love being in the water and enjoying a cocktail or two at this water type bar.
the conversation
Vesterbro, Copenhagen
June 2010
My wife and I walked past this gritty dive bar in the decidely rough around the edges neighborhood of Vesterbro in Copenhagen, and I loved it for its authentic vintage ethic. When I peeked in I noticed right away how much it reminded me of a setting for a scene out of a David Lynch film. Later that evening I returned for a few beers and to be a fly on the wall, this photo and the others in this series are from that experience. These guys were playing a dice game and it would appear discussing something important. The guy on the left looked very serious.
