We continued along the final stretch of the Barrier Hwy from Cober to Nyngan where we turned onto the Mitchell Highway towards Parkes.
Spotted this in Grizedale forest, between the fire tracks and the trees your very unlikely to find an empty bag of crisps, chewing gum splodged on the floor or any undesirables. But a long shiny barrier, here it is.

A hooked trout jumps out of the water next to the Barrier Free Fishing area on Big Tumbling Creek. Robert Deel spent the morning fishing from his wheelchair in the Clinch Mountain Wildlife Management Area outside Saltville, Virginia. Deel drove over an hour to fish at the new area.

The Churchill Barriers are a series of four causeways in the Orkney Islands with a total length of 1.5 miles (2.3km). They link the Orkney Mainland in the north to the island of South Ronaldsay via Burray and the two smaller islands of Lamb Holm and Glimps Holm.
The barriers were built in the 1940s primarily as naval defences to protect the anchorage at Scapa Flow, but now serve as road links, carrying the A961 road from Kirkwall to Burwick.
The bases of the barriers were built from gabions enclosing 250,000 tons of broken rock, from quarries on Orkney. The gabions were dropped into place from overhead cableways into waters up to 59 feet deep. The bases were then covered with 66,000 locally-cast concrete blocks in five-tonne and ten-tonne sizes. The five-ton blocks were laid on the core, and the ten-tonne blocks were arranged on the sides in a random pattern to act as wave-breaks.

Tunnel under the Old Grafton Road. This was dug to hold explosives just in case there was a need to stop the Japanese tanks should they invade.
I use to drive along this road as a child with my family as we headed for the beach. Never knew any of this existed.

The Thames Barrier spans 520 metres across the River Thames near Woolwich, and it protects 125 square kilometres of central London from flooding caused by tidal surges. It has 10 steel gates that can be raised into position across the River Thames. When raised, the main gates stand as high as a 5-storey building and as wide as the opening of Tower Bridge. Each main gate weighs 3,300 tonnes.
The barrier is closed under storm surge conditions to protect London from flooding from the sea. It may also be closed during periods of high flow over Teddington Weir to reduce the risk of river flooding in some areas of west London including Richmond and Twickenham.
The Thames Barrier will then remain closed over high water until the water level downstream of the Thames Barrier has reduced to the same level as upstream. This is a managed process to provide for different circumstances, and takes about 5 hours. The Thames Barrier is then opened, allowing the water upstream to flow out to sea with the outward-bound tide.
The Environment Agency has closed the Thames Barrier 174 times since it became operational in 1982 (correct as of March 2014). Of these closures, 87 were to protect against tidal flooding and 87 were to alleviate river flooding. The frequency of closures has increased over recent decades.
