Heute habe ich drei Sorten Brot und einen Hefegugelhupf gebacken.
Today I did bake three kinds of bread and a yeast "Gugelhupf" (left side)
For our Christmas Eve supper, my wife prepared ham with raisin sauce, baked beans, macaroni & cheese, fresh turnip and mustard greens from the garden and a store bought roll.
About a month a go I decided I wanted to bake! Even though I couldn't as I was on that super strict diet. So I started buying bits so when I can bake I have everything in I need. Well that's my excuse anyway!
It also kick started a major clean-up in the kitchen and a current addiction to tupperware/storage boxes....
I just added flour, sugar, egg, vanilla sugar, baking powder, cacao powder, walnuts, caco pieces, milk and butter. Shaked it and after 50 min in the oven it turned into a yummy cake.

Baked HDR of an old JCB made from 3 exposures in photomatix pro 3 then fine tuned in PSP9 to get the baked effect..
I have been baking again this weekend (baking has again become a regular activity lately) and this is what I produced.
They are not looking the way they were supposed to : I didn't have the paper cupcake forms I was looking for (so I had to use my silicone forms instead), the frosting was meant to look like a rose (but the piping cones I have turned out too small) and finally I wanted the frosting flavoured with rose water (so I could have a hot pink frosting), but I dropped the bottle which didn't survive its date with gravity :o(
This is all it isn't is, but what is it then?
The cupcake has almonds in it (powder and pieces) and is flavoured with cinnamon and orange flower water. Because I didn't have the rose water anymore (see above), I flavoured the white chocolate and cream frosting with orange flower water again and used food colouring in order to have it look orangy. I wanted it to be a rather funky orange but it ended up way more pastel, oh well.
They are delicious, isn't that what counts?

Flour and sugar in canisters that do not fit in the baking cupboard. Someday I will have a flashy and splashy backsplash on the wall behind them.
A few days ago I talked over at Chiot's Run about how much I love in season citrus. I don't buy oranges, grapefruit or lemons at the grocery store throughout the year. I wait until they're in season and order cases from small farms in a sunnier, warmer place. Citrus season is especially wonderful, because it falls during those dull dreary days for those of us in the north. There's nothing more delicious on a snowy morning that a baked grapefruit for breakfast!
Prepared according to the recipe except:
- I have used only 2 slices of bacon,
- decreased the shredded cheddar to 2 oz only.
We skipped the optional sour cream and forgot the sliced green onions - we were too hungry and almost jumped to the table to eat the pizza. We liked it but to me some bites were just slightly too salty for my own taste.

I chose to bake cookies today and as I sat there and watched my daughter and smelled the aroma of sweet chocolate fill the air, a tear came to my eye. On days when so much is going on we sometimes forget to stop and look around and appreciate the simple things. Elaborate cakes and cupcakes sometimes don't bring the same smile as simple and sweet chocolate chip cookies.
Take some digestives, butter, sugar, cream cheese, sour cream, cornflower, eggs and vanilla extract and pod. And you have yourself a wonderful dessert.....

"Hansel and Gretel¹s dream house!"
Make this delicious beauty your new home! Built using the most sustainable of candy craftsmanship, this decadent abode includes a rain barrel water-collection system, large windows and a skylight for natural lighting, a solar-powered water heater, a green roof, and indigenous landscaping. A one-level ranch is also accessible, it will age gracefully along with you. This cozy fairytale home measures around 60 square inches - perfect for your ginger family!
Few homes can boast of such robust construction, known in the industry as "C.O.B." (Confections Over (ginger)Bread); hearty gingerbread walls and royal icing mortar provide a sound foundation for the chocolate brickwork on all 4 sides, all of which means sound insulation and lower heating bills!
The roof is covered with green sprinkle sedum, which gets ample light, sharing space with the passive solar panels for the water heater, and promotes drainage into the cookie gutters that flow into the pretzel stick barrel. This gray water system has proven ideal for the gumdrop garden that surrounds the home on all sides.
A candyman¹s special  this one won't last long! Serious inquiries from ginger people only please.
