This Red Tail Hawk has found my back yard filled with bird feeders and bird baths. My backyard makes an easy hunting ground for this bird of prey.
Marty Larkin has added bit and pieces of San Francisco's history to the backyard of his Outer Sunset District home.
This morning, the owls were really loud. I was wandering around, looking for a good shot of Owlie, but he was well hidden in the growth. I swear, sometimes it feels like I live in a Henri Rousseau painting...
Our backyard used to be entirely weeds and dirt. We worked really hard on it during spring 2014. We put in the walkway and the flowerbeds, built the fire pit, and laid sod (on our first anniversary). We turned the back left corner into a strawberry patch, and my husband built the Adirondack chairs, trellis/arbor, and raised beds. We planted a peach tree and three dwarf cherry trees, too. It looks so much nicer now than it used to!
This big guy was hiding in the backyard, behind the raspberry bushes. I got within about 20 feet of him and he was fine, just watching me. Then he got bored and lay down - I was going to take a picture, but you couldn't even see him once he wasn't standing.

I exaggerated the trees to pretend we live in Maine, at least during the summer. Yesterday was 91 and humid. The pool takes up most of the yard. I have another corner with some veggies and flowers. Hoping to see sunflowers again on the other side of the fence, last year they were up to the garage roof.
We put up a tent in the backyard and we spent part of the night in it. First time the kids spent the night in a tent. We ended up taking the tent back because of some defects.

Doll Census: Satchel is a Lati (company), Yellow Special (size) Byurl (face mold). He has an anatomically correct boy body. The default for this Byurl was the boy body, but buyers can opt to change it to a girl body. I ordered the default boy, but when he arrived, he was girl! I had to send the body back to exchange for the boy body. While his body was gone, his head went to Leah for enhancements of his way-too-pale Lati face up. His birthday is September 11, 2008, celebrated when his boy body and touched up head were re-united.
Captured this hummer in my backyard as I was sitting on the porch, sipping some coffee and reading my Bible.
Doesn't get much better than that!
A nice, big backyard! What a luxury in NYC. Beyond the rear cement path, the space extends probably another four to six feet. It's a bit over grown, but I'm thinking I may eventually build a raised platform with a pergola above it. I'm imagining a table an chairs where we can chow on some yummy BBQ in the Summers.
